Advocacy at Risk: Please help
Seriously, we fixed the links this time!

Earlier this week in our e-update, we urged you protect Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition's advocacy programs by making a tax-deductible year-end gift.

Unfortunately, and embarrassingly, the links to the donation page were broken!

We have fixed the problem by posting our annual funding request AND a live "donate" button on our homepage at www.BikeSonoma.org.

Please accept our most humble apologies for the inconvenience, and visit the page now. Remember, we've received a $10K matching grant to start us toward raising our $30K goal. That means when you donate now, your money is doubled!

Your donation directly supports your vision for an increasingly bicycle-friendly Sonoma County for generations to come. Please give generously.

Thank you so much!

Take Action to Protect SMART
How YOU can help save the train & pathway.
SMARTbanner4

SMART is under attack by a small group of individuals who are attempting to derail the SMART project before it even gets rolling.

SMART will provide:

  • A world class bicycle/pedestrian multi-use pathway from Cloverdale to Larkspur
  • Approximately 900 jobs in the region
  • Sustainable transportation choices for Sonoma and Marin counties
  • An alternative to Highway 101 traffic congestion
  • Transportation choices for our aging population
  • Clean, green transportation for this and future generations

There are four simple things you can do today in order to help protect the SMART Train and Pathway:

  1. Decline to Sign- Anti-SMART people are working to gather signatures throughout our communities to kill SMART. Please do not sign the anti-SMART petition.

  2. Help Leaflet- The SMART Rider's Coalition has a team of supporters that are working on the ground to educate the public about the importance of SMART for this and future generations. This is an important way you can directly help to keep petitions from being signed. If you can volunteer, please contact Ben Boyce at:  ben.boyce@sbcglobal.net.

  3. Attend SMART Board Meeting on Wednesday, December 21st at 2:30 PM (check the board agenda for schedule changes).   It is important for SMART supporters to attend this meeting to speak on behalf of the SMART Train and Pathway. The meeting will take place at San Rafael City Hall, 1400 5th Avenue in downtown San Rafael. Please RSVP to Sandra@BikeSonoma.org if you can attend the meeting.

  4. Write to your local newspaper and support SMART using your favorite social networking site-  If you would like more information on how you can help by writing letters, please contact: Alisha@marinbike.org. Please "like" SMART Riders on the SMART Riders Facebook page, or by visiting our website at:  www.smartriders.wordpress.com.You can follow SMART Riders on Twitter too.

Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is working as part of the SMART Riders Coalition, a group of individuals and union, business and environmental organizations formed to support the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Train and Pathway. The Coalition's mission is to educate the public about the benefits of SMART Train and Pathway for the North Bay community.

Action Alert!
Cotati City Council meeting 12/14 at 7pm

On Wednesday, December 14th at 7:00 p.m. Cotati City Council will consider the Old Redwood Highway project.

The options are a 4-lane “City Boulevard” style street with signalized intersections and bike lanes, OR a 2-lane “Village Mainstreet” design with roundabouts and wide bike lanes.

Please attend the council meeting and speak in favor of the 2-lane with roundabouts design. This is a great opportunity to slow down traffic and increase safety for everyone.
