On Sunday, April 15th, 55 women joined Supervisor Shirlee Zane for the inaugural "Biker Chicks" women's bike ride -- and it was a fabulous experience!
Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is thrilled that the ride met our goal: to support women who are interested in riding, but intimidated, to get out there and give it a try.
In the words of Linda Roa, a 66 year-old Sebastopol resident,
"Thanks
for organizing the "Biker Chicks" Ride today, along with Shirlee and
the others. It was great fun for me. I do have a nice new bike
which my husband bought for us about 2 months ago--so not much recent
experience! My riding prior to that was about 30 years ago! I
appreciate the chance to ride with more experienced riders and to learn tips
and tricks & "rules of the road", and to gain some much needed
confidence."
"Biker Chicks" will ride again on Sunday, May 6th. We'll be meeting at 1:45 p.m. at Prince Greenway Park in Downtown Santa Rosa (Santa Rosa Ave at Sonoma Ave). We'll be riding to Spring Lake and back.
Please pre-register for the ride (it's free!) at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/3149350793
After the ride, we'll enjoy drinks/snacks at a downtown Santa Rosa spot. (optional, but so much fun!)
In addition, "Biker Chicks" is partnering with Trek Store Santa Rosa to offer some women's only bicycle maintenance classes. The classes are $10 each, and RSVP to Sandra@BikeSonoma.org is required.
May 2nd, 6:15 p.m.: Fix-a-Flat workshop
May 30th, 6:15 p.m.: Basic bicycle maintenance
C'mon women: get skilled up and join Biker Chicks rides. You'll have a blast!

On Bike to Work Day, May 10th, thousands of Sonoma County folks will ride their bikes to nearly 30 Energizer Stations at all corners of the County.
But the fun doesn't stop there! Mark your calendar and be sure to
attend a Bike Home Celebration in your community! We're working with
partners to make sure you have somewhere fun to celebrate bicycling at
the end of the day, too!
