The Sonoma County Bicycle Expo (formerly the Northern
California Bicycle Expo) is our community’s summertime destination for all
things bike. Now in its third year, our Sonoma County Bicycle Expo has
become the region’s premier bicycle vendor fair, exhibition, and festival. Last
year’s event drew 3,500 and we expect far more in 2012.
Mark your calendar and plan to be there. You won't want to miss:
- A fun bike Ride About Town, starting at 8:30 a.m., with elected officials, community leaders, your neighbors
- 80 vendors and Exhibitors
- Bicycle Theatre by Whiskeydrunk Cycles and The
Imaginists Theatre Collective
- BMX stunts by RampRats and OneLove BMX
- Free Valet Bicycle Parking
- Amazing Food
- Beer and Wine
New for 2012: - “Velogenesis” – a gathering of Northern
California Bicycle Frame Builders who will collaborate to build a bicycle
on-site during the Expo
- A street criterion (maybe with dirt) (tentative)
- Buskers performing throughout
the festival
The Expo
takes place the day after Bike Monkey’s Annadel Mountain Bike Race. That means you can invite your out of town friends to celebrate a fabulous bikeccentric weekend with you here, and you should definitely plan to attend both events.
Vendors:
With a bike-loving audience of about 5,000 people during a bike-alicious weekend, you've got to bring your wares to the Sonoma County Bicycle Expo. Our rates are reasonable, and we're offering an early-bird discount if you sign up by July 15th (highly recommended). Register here: www.bikesonoma.org/expovendors. If you need more information, or need to register by mail, contact Sandra@Bikesonoma.org/707-545-0153. We can't wait to see you there.
Sponsors:
We need the support of the local business community to produce a great event. And, we offer your business great exposure and a booth space at the Expo in exchange for your sponsorship. Our sponsorship rates are reasonable! All sponsorship must be confirmed by June 18th so we can get your logo on our posters, postcards, website, etc. Please contact Sandra Lupien at 707-545-0153 or Sandra@Bikesonoma.org for information.
Volunteers: It takes dozens of generous volunteers to make the Expo a success. If you'd like to help on August 19th, please email Sandra@BikeSonoma.org. Let her know if you'd like to volunteer early morning, late morning, mid-day, afternoon, or evening. She'll reply with some options for you. Thanks so much!

What's happening with Federal Funding for bicycle projects?
The debate over whether and how to fund local bicycling projects at the federal level continues in Congress. For us, it's absolutely critical to convince Congress to continue to fund bike lanes, bike paths, and Safe Routes to School. We need more of these things in our community, not less. Without federal funding, it will be incredibly difficult for Sonoma County and its cities to build the connected bicycle network it has planned. Many of you have contacted your elected officials, and we thank you for that. We're doing our best to keep track of, and keep you updated on the developments. We're beginning to fear that the funding might actually be cut, so please do call or email your Congressmembers and let them know how much their districts will suffer if they stop funding bicycling and walking programs. Ask your family members and friends throughout the country to do the same. Here's a recent update from League of American Bicyclists. Thanks for keeping yourself informed, and for working with to protect funding for bikes!
There's still time to enroll --sign up by the end of the day Tuesday, June 5th: Windsor Bike Skills/Ride Weekend -- June 9 & 10
Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is partnering with the Town of
Windsor Parks and Recreation Department to present a weekend of bicycle
skills classes for people ages 8 and up. These workshops are designed
for bicycle riders (and would-be riders) who want to enjoy bicycling as
much as possible. If you take the full series, you’ll learn from expert
instructors how to be a safe, visible bike rider, who communicates
clearly with other road users. You’ll also learn how to give your bike a
safety check, and how to change a flat tire. That's all on Saturday, June 9th. Then, on June 10th, test out your new skills on a great, family-friendly ride led by SCBC Executive Director, Gary Helfrich.
