Schools Find Creative ways to Celebrate Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week was celebrated Jan. 29 through Feb. 4 this year, and our North County Federation schools celebrated in a variety of ways.   During the Community Open House on Sunday, Jan. 29th over 200 families combined visited their neighborhood Catholic school to learn more about how a Catholic Education could benefit their child.

On Jan. 30, eighth grade students and teachers participated in the celebration of a special regional Mass with Archbishop Carlson at Holy Trinity Parish.  Throughout the week, students had fun with everything from crazy hats and socks, wacky tacky dress down days and donuts for parents to special assemblies with visits from Fredbird, dance performers—even an eagle from the World Bird Sanctuary.

On Wednesday, February 29th seventh grade students will have the opportunity to spend a day in high school through the “Titan for the Day” program at Trinity Catholic High School.  Current Trinity students get the day off while the school opens its doors and classrooms for the seventh graders, who will experience a day of high school core and elective classes with Trinity faculty, complete with lunch periods and a school assembly.

“This day is a great opportunity for our students to encounter the high school experience and interact with other students from the Catholic elementary schools in our area,” says Miss Jeanne Gearon, Principal at St. Ferdinand School. “We appreciate the fantastic efforts of the teachers and staff at Trinity.”

Archbishop Carlson Announces Alive in Christ! Priorities

Alive in Christ Mission AdvancementOn February 2nd, Archbishop Robert Carlson shared his priorities for Catholic Education through Alive in Christ! —  the Mission Advancement Initiative for Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.  Among other priorities is the Archbishop's desire for parishes and schools to engage in Deanery-based  planning, something that the Northeast Deanery has been most recently working on since the 2009 Education Summit and the establishment of the Federation of Catholic Schools in 2010.

To learn more about Alive in Christ, visit for a link to a video and summary of the priorities.  Please continue to pray for the continued success of the mission and ministry of Catholic Education in our Northeast Deanery and throughout the Archdiocese.
