Center is a community based nonprofit organization
supporting Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islander survivors of domestic
violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes and working to
end violence and oppression in our communities.

Through a
partnership with the South Asian Bar Association of Washington (SABAW), we are
looking for a legal intern to work in our office in Seattle, to directly support survivors of
violence.
Legal Intern Duties Include:
-- Assist survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or trafficking
with legal matters relating to immigration law, family law and criminal law.
-- Prepare program participants for, and accompany them to, Family Court,
Criminal Court, DSHS, law enforcement interviews, or other hearings.
-- Support program participants in completing legal paperwork including, but
not limited to: drafting declarations and responding to discovery requests.
-- Conduct legal research, including research into transnational legal
questions.
-- Interface with other legal aid organizations.
-- Create and/or organize resources for future Chaya & API Safety
Center legal program
needs.
-- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
We prefer applicants who are bilingual or bicultural, particularly in Asian or
South Asian languages and applicants who possess knowledge/familiarity with the
communities we serve. Participation in Chaya-API Safety
Center's training program
is required. Stipend (provided by SABAW) is for $1,000 for a minimum of
200 hours.

We are looking for a PT to FT Community Mobilization
Coordinator, who will work closely with South Asian Communities in the greater Seattle-King County metropolitan area.
The
Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

Develop
and implement plan for community mobilization in conjunction with staff and
volunteers.
·
Implement
all aspects of the plan, including broad-based community outreach,
community-specific projects, and other activities that will establish excellent
links into diverse sectors of South Asian communities and build awareness and
education of domestic violence in those communities.
·
Ensure
overall implementation of plan by volunteers, interns, and other staff involved
in program.
·
Coordinate
and facilitate regular committee meetings.
·
Document
all project activities.
·
Track
and compile reports and submit data for reports on a monthly basis.
·
Recruit
and train new volunteers.
·
Coordinate all aspects of volunteer participation
to motivate and retain volunteers by maximizing volunteer satisfaction and
productivity.
·
Update and maintain volunteer database.
·
Contribute
to program development.
·
Attend
relevant professional/educational meetings and trainings.
·
Other
tasks assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
·
Motivated,
energetic, handle priorities, complete projects, and meet deadlines both
independently or as part of a team.
·
Excellent
written and oral communication skills.
·
Ability
to interact with diverse groups of people.
·
Deep understanding
of women’s and/or experience and interest in issues of violence against women.
·
Experience
with community organizing is a plus, especially in faith-based or ethnic
communities.
·
Familiarity
and experience working with South Asian communities.
·
Proficiency
in Microsoft Office software and the use of the internet.
·
Ability
to work flexible hours (including many evenings and weekends).
·
Reliable
transportation.
·
Fluency
in Punjabi, Urdu/Hindi, or Bengali a plus, however if you are bilingual or
bicultural in any South Asian, Asian or Pacific Islander language, you are
encouraged to apply.
The Community
Mobilization Coordinator will begin as a flexible part-time position (20-30 hours a week) with the potential to become a full-time position. The position will be eligible for health and other benefits.
