Souls of the City – Friday & Saturday, November 2 & 3

soulscityLocal group Kalpulli Maquilli Tonatiuh and other Azteca dancers from throughout California and Mexico invite you to a traditional Velacion (song & music) ceremony and large scale community altar installation in Old Sacramento.  The ceremony will take place on Friday, November 2nd along the Sacramento River Platform from 8:00PM until 12:00AM. 

Saturday, November 3rd will feature calavera face painting, family activities, a pop-up photo booth, traditional music beginning at 4:00PM with a procession through Old Sacramento, Azteca dance and altar installation beginning at 6:00PM.  Special guests invited to the celebration include Ameyaltzin Fuentes Nava and Abraham Endoqui.

This is your last chance to take part in our Souls of the City program.  Don’t miss out!  Souls of the City: Dia de los Muertos in Old Sacramento is presented by Sol Collective, the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation, and the Sacramento Community. 

 


Mustache Day – Saturday, November 10

MustacheDayAdvertDepressed after Halloween? Melancholy before Thanksgiving? Don’t fret; it’s Mustache Day at the Sacramento History Museum! Join our very own mustachioed Underground Tour guides, Sheriff George and Dennis on Saturday, November 10th.

Visitors sporting either a real or fake mustache will receive ½ price museum admission and 10% off museum store purchases!  Dust off that lip toupee, comb that soup strainer, and come on down to the Sacramento History Museum!

 


Living History Training - Saturday, November 3 & Saturday, November 17

livingHistoryInterested in recreating the past?  New members of the Old Sacramento Living History Program are invited to training workshops from 10:00AM to 4:00PM on November 3 & 4.  Please contact Janessa West at jwest@cityofsacramento.org for more information.


 



Underground Tours Continue

OSUOld Sacramento Underground Tours will continue throughout November for all those who missed out on the popular experience earlier this year!

Tours will run Thursdays and Fridays at 11:00AM, 12:30PM, and 2:00PM, and Saturdays & Sundays at 11:00AM, 12:00PM, 12:30PM, 1:30PM, 2:00PM and 3:00PM.  An Extended schedule will also be offered Thanksgiving weekend, November 23, 24 & 25 from 10:30AM until 3:00PM departing every half hour. 

Please note that no tours will take place on Thanksgiving Day.  Get your tickets online or by calling 916-808-7059.


Pony Express Holiday Ride

ponyexpressovalsm.jpgSpread cheer this holiday season the old fashioned way! Have your Christmas post cards carried by the Pony Express from Old Sacramento to Folsom, re-tracing the steps of Pony Express riders over 150 years ago. Each card will receive a special commemerative ink stamp showing they were carried by the Pony Express. The US Postal Service will then deliver them world-wide. Come by the Sacramento History Museum any time in November to drop off your holiday post cards. The annual Pony Express Ride will take place on December 8, 2012, and will pass through Old Sacramento at around 3:30PM.
