Black Women's Blueprint | August 15, 2017

This week, on this day and in this moment, we again renew our commitment to you and each other; and in the face of violent oppression as we are saddened by the murder of a white comrade Heather Heyer, the mowing down of countless people of color, and the sexualized verbal abuse hurled at female counter-protesters in Charlottesville, we invite you to join us. Resist what bell hooks denounced as "imperialist, white-supremacist patriarchy" -bell hooks

We have always put it simply: Black women's issues are racial justice issues. On September 30, 2017 Black women in all their diversity will march on Washington, D.C. to denounce the propagation of state-violence and the widespread incarceration of Black women and girls, rape and all sexualized violence, the murders and brutalization of trans identified women and the disappearances of our girls from our streets, our schools and our homes. Read the statement by the National Co-Chairs, Farah Tanis, Black Women's Blueprint, Bre Anne Campbell, and Trans Sistas of Color Detroit and Charlene Carruthers, BYP100.

Our Mission: Black Women’s Blueprint (BWB) is a Black feminist organization and a movement to place Black women's lives and their particular struggles with gender-violence squarely within the context of the larger racial justice concerns of our communities so that all members gain social, political and economic equity.  We work to develop a culture where women of African descent are fully empowered and where gender, race and other disparities are erased. We engage in progressive research, documentation, support movement building and organize on social justice issues that are steeped in the victories, the needs and demands of Black women within their diverse communities and within dominant culture.

We have been the conveners of the first Truth Commission ever to focus on Black women in the U.S. and their historical and contemporary experiences with rape/sexual assault.  Black Women's Blueprint is a lead organizer for the amazing and groundbreaking City Wide Gender Justice Campaign - Cities for CEDAW.
