Lending a Helping Hand

Silver Stars' Jayne Appel and Tully Belivaqua joined the ARC of San Antonio at animal shelter before Hoops & Hounds game

Team Up Challenge students from the ARC of San Antonio have been working all summer to package and label dog food for local food pantries and Meals on Wheels. The special needs teenagers were joined by Silver Stars Jayne Appel and Tully Bevilaqua as they fed and played with the dogs at Paws Ranch Rescue and Animal Sanctuary.

The group talked about the dogs they own or those they would love to take home with them! The Team Up Challenge students at the ARC of San Antonio believe their project is especially important as there are many families who cannot feed their animals.

Dino-mite Exploration

San Antonio Spurs guards James Anderson and Gary Neal spend afternoon at Dinosaur Quest with Team Up Challenge students

Team Up Challenge students from Ella Austin Community Center went on a scavenger hunt with San Antonio Spurs' James Anderson and Gary Neal. The group is working to create fun, educational experiences for their peers over the summer, and an afternoon at Dinosaur Quest certainly provided that!

The students and players went on a tour where they learned about the many different dinosaurs exhibited in Dinosaur Quest, counted the number of teeth in a T-Rex, distinguished between carnivores and omnivores and even got to look at dinosaurs that had bites taken out of them!

Ella Austin Community Center is one of 10 semi-finalists in the 2012 Summer Team Up Challenge, presented by AT&T. To learn more visit
