Stand Up for the Sector

This Sunday, the Boston Globe included a column entitled “Nonprofit greed’s real victims.” Read the column here.  The column correctly notes that, in cases of abuse and neglect by nonprofit leaders, the victims are the citizens that the nonprofit was created to serve and the sector itself.

The column goes too far, however, in painting the entire nonprofit sector as involved in or complicit with abuses.  Statements such as the “shadowy world of Massachusetts nonprofits” and “all the greedy administrators who may be tucked away in the state's 22,000 nonprofits” serve only to increase and perpetuate public distrust in a sector that is so essential to our quality of life.

We encourage you to write to the Globe at and share your experiences of how your organization, and the nonprofit sector as a whole, is effective, efficient and essential.  Tips on writing a Letter to the Editor, as well as other resources for working with the media, are included on our website, here.
