Do I need to know about
search optimization?

Yes! Search engine optimization (SEO) is a set of techniques you or your web designer use to help your website or blog get found online.

The internet is vast (being the world wide web.....) Making your business' online marketing effective takes a bit of knowledge and planning.

If you rely on a web designer, SEO consultant or copy writer to develop your online site, as a business owner you need a basic understanding of search optimization principles to oversee these assistants. If you are setting up and maintaining your site yourself, it is important you have a good grasp of the techniques.

SEO can seem confusing and technical. On some levels it can be difficult, but there are overall principles that will help you understand the essentials.

I will be covering these principles in my Simple Search Optimization workshop on October 14. Click now to register

Why you want a blog

Your business wants a blog. Your customers (and new potential customers) want to know about your business. They want to know what is unique about your products and services. They want to know what you know about your business and why you are passionate about what you do. If you give them this information, they are much more likely to buy from you.

A blog is the easiest and most cost effective way to develop your online presence. Because a blog is social and interactive nature, it is a great way to reach customers.

Verbal & non-verbal
communication online

Human communication is (statistics vary) 15-35% verbal and 85-65% non-verbal. This means that in face-to-face conversations, there's a lot more going on than the words.

In online communications, it's been taken for granted that words are the primary method of providing information, with a few pictures sprinkled around to make things pretty. Other than within the design community, the information conveyed by the non-verbal aspects of online communications has not been discussed much.

Recently, one of the creators of The Thesis Theme for WordPress (an awesome tool for designing and developing a WordPress blog with strong SEO) published an ebook called "Nonverbal Website Intelligence" It gives good insight about the importance of good visual and structural design for your website or blog.
