Newsletter Header New
As spring is finally approaching, our third year dancers have just returned from their recent exchange trip to our sister school, L’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal. Back home, they are now fully engaged in preparations for their upcoming March performance, ACCELERATION 2018, which will feature small-cast works by a range of gifted choreographers. The efforts that the students, faculty, and staff have made to provide you with an engaging and thought-provoking evening of dance will surely bear fruit when you join us for this exciting production.

In this March newsletter, we feature profiles of three remarkable individuals: Pulga Muchochoma, faculty member for our upcoming Summer School, and currently on tour in Western Canada with Toronto Dance Theatre; Paige Culley, 2010 graduate and recent winner of the Prix de la danse de Montréal; and Mario Ma, one of our talented third year dancers, who will appear in ACCELERATION with his classmates.

I hope you enjoy learning more about these valued artists, and I look forward to welcoming you at ACCELERATION 2018.

Pulga Muchochoma, one of our stellar alumni, has been performing with Toronto Dance Theatre since he graduated from the School in 2009. Currently on the 50th anniversary tour in Western Canada with the company, Pulga will be dancing in TDT’s much anticipated Glass Fields program at the Fleck Dance Theatre, March 20-24.

“Pulga is a super physical mover – rippling with energy, radiating joy, and dancing with his soul stripped bare. He never fails to move and inspire me.” – Peggy Baker

Paige Culley is a 2010 graduate of the School, who has distinguished herself since graduation dancing with Compagnie Marie Chouinard, among others, and has recently been awarded the prestigious Prix de la danse de Montréal. "When I think back to my time at the School, I truly appreciate the intensity, and the attention. I felt that I mattered; improving mattered; connecting with others mattered; and dance mattered… a lot! It’s as if the training at the School instilled a rigorous acknowledgement of my performance in every moment..."

Our 3rd year student Mario Ma was born in the ancient city of Luoyang in China’s Henan province. He entered the Professional Training Program here at the School almost by chance: “It’s quite interesting actually. My initial goal was to pursue a master’s degree at York University, but my English was not at the level that would allow me to do that. While browsing York’s website, I saw the information about the joint program with the School, and that’s how I learnt about the Professional Training Program; I registered for the audition, and the rest is history!”
