New Works:
Kenji Bunch – Lost and Found (Commission)
duoJalal will premiere a new commission by Kenji Bunch at the Mohawk Trail Concerts series this summer in Massachusetts. The new work is an exploration of the diverse stylistic possibilities presented by the duo evoking memories of music from the late Renaissance/early Baroque to the music traditions of Scandinavia. Lost and Found includes percussion instruments from Egypt (dumbek), West Africa (djembe), Peru (Cajon) as well as gongs, bells and cymbals. Kenji Bunch will be in attendance for the premiere.
Derek Bermel – Thracian Sketches (Arrangement)
Derek Bermel has been very gracious in adapting his work Thracian Sketches (originally for solo clarinet) for viola and hand drums. duoJalal has been working closely with Mr. Bermel who has been reworking the clarinet part for Kathryn as well as helping arrange and shape the percussion part. The work is based on Bulgarian modes from the region Thracia which stretches over the Rodopi mountains and extends into Modern Greece. For this piece Yousif special ordered a frame drum from Cooperman Drums. The drum is based on the traditional frame drum, the dahares.
Jack Stamps - Piece for two duos: viola & percussion plus cello & piano
Local San Antonio composer Jack Stamps will be writing a new commission for duoJalal plus the cello/piano duo featured on our December 12th Concert in San Antonio Texas this fall. It will be a 12-15 minute long adventure with Mediteranean influence.

Donate:
A "Call to Composers" will be going out soon to find a composer to write a new piece based on our namesake Jallaludin Rumi. Rumi was a 13th century poet, whose visions, words, and life teach the world how to reach inner peace and happiness. He believed passionately that people of all religions and backgrounds can live together in peace and harmony. We would sincerely appreciate your help in funding this new commission. Email duojalal@gmail.com if you are interested in donating or submitting work samples.
