If you are already a member of the $21-monthly program, you help fight food insecurity for the students at MBSS. If you want to make a difference, you can join today to make a monthly pledge ensuring each student's basic needs are met. The school's nutrition and agriculture programs work to fight regional hunger issues directly by providing access to food, but also look to the future by providing farming and nutrition education.
"In Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, South Sudan, where on-going insecurity and environmental issues makes access to food difficult...the food security situation is described as stressed, a result of flooding, cattle rustling, an influx of returning refugees and on-going insecurity."
Your donations helped establish an Agriculture Program at the school, however development of the school farm is still needed. Students can learn how to grow and process both local and non-native crops during weekend programs, while also using crop samples in biology class to explore the science behind plant life and agriculture. This knowledge will combat local malnutrition and serve the students and the community long after they graduate from MBSS. Severe flooding devastated many of the regional crops requiring more of the next year's food to be imported. You can help the school prepare for the next planting season by supporting the purchase of a tractor and seeds.
