Daily Splash Summer Reading Event
A post from our partner, Chris Skaugset of Longview Library, a member of the Early Learning Public Library Partnership. _________
The Longview Library planned a Science Week as part of our “Make a
Splash” summer reading program. One of the activities involved setting
up a simple discovery center based on the Mother Goose Program’s Sink
and Float science kit. We filled a large shallow tub with water and set
out trays of random objects of varying buoyancy—some from the Mother
Goose kit and others scavenged from around the library. When children
came to the table, we’d invite them to put an item in the water after
predicting whether it would sink or float...
Read and Romp in Centralia
Reading is a ton of fun, especially at a Read and Romp. Reach Out and Read at Northwest Pediatric Center in Centralia hosted a Read and Romp community reading celebration on Saturday, July 24, 2010.
The celebration drew families in for the afternoon with booths featuring favorite book characters such as Curious George, Bernstein Bears, and many others.
Many children and families left with fond memories and a zeal for reading and literally watching books come to life. Congratulations to Dr. Lily Lo and partner agencies, including Timberland Regional Library, for hosting a wonderful celebration.
This event was sponsored by Foundation for Early Learning and partners.
DEL & OSPI Survey
The Washington State Department of Early Learning is working with their partner agency, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), to help collect information about how Washington families want to communicate with their children’s school districts. If you know families with school-age children, please let them know about this comment opportunity. The survey below allows parents to say how they like to talk with their schools, such as through meetings or flyers, and how much they like to be involved with their children’s schools. OSPI will use the survey results to make recommendations to districts on how to reach out to families. Click for the survey in English.Click for the survey in Spanish. Please respond by August 11, 2010. For more information, visit http://www.k12.wa.us/cisl/
