GWP Contributes to Peru’s Groundwater Issues

A near full auditorium at workshop in LimaOverexploitation, contamination, and salinisation of aquifers are among the main problems Peru currently faces in groundwater management. To tackle these issues, GWP Peru, with the financial and technical support of GWP South America, held a workshop on “Groundwater: steps towards adaptive and sustainable management” at the National Water Authority’s auditorium in Lima on 9 August 2013.

GWP Pakistan Facilitates Flood Project

In 2010 a major flood devastated PakistanOver the last five years Pakistan has suffered three major floods. In 2010, the country experienced a flood which devastated the country, with 2,200 people losing their lives. GWP Pakistan recently helped organise an international conference on flood forecasting.

GWP and OECD Launch Global Dialogue

The Global Dialogue Project Launch 2 September 2013Global Water Partnership and the OECD have launched a joint project to establish a Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth. The major output of the cooperation will be a report to be presented at the World Water Forum in 2015 in South Korea.

Rhine River Wins European River Prize

The EU Commissioner for the Environment spoke at the eventThe winner of the first IRF European River Prize is the Rhine River. The winner was announced at the European River Restoration Conference in Vienna on 12 September 2013. GWP is one of the organisers and financial sponsors of the prize.

Workshop Held on Building Climate Resilience in the Nile Delta

Nile River between Aswan and Luxor in Egypt 2GWP Egypt and the Delta Alliance jointly organised a workshop in Cairo in June within the framework of the ‘Enabling Delta Life’ initiative. The main aim was to identify elements of a programme that can complement and add value to on-going activities in the Nile delta.
