30 Seconds with...
Robert Stürmer, oikos Photographer
Robert Stürmer is a professional photographer with his own photo studio directly across the University of St. Gallen campus. His portfolio includes conferences, portraits, weddings and fashion. He also provides services for smaller video productions. Robert’s connection with oikos started in 2004, when he became a member of the St. Gallen chapter. That same year, he was elected Vice-President of oikos St. Gallen.
“When I joined oikos we had a pretty small team, because it was hard to get our fellow students interested in what oikos stands for. That is why we focused on recruiting new engaged members. My active oikos years, I remember as very busy and challenging. I was studying Economics at the time and then I left the University of St. Gallen in 2007. A little bit later, I started my own business in St. Gallen, working with photography.
I stayed well informed and it was good to see how the recruited members marked a turning point in the organization’s development, and I wanted to be at least a ‘little’ part of that process. Taking photographs and making videos is what I can do well and that is my way of contributing to the oikos community. I am very happy to still be a part of the organization after all of these years!
Mainly I photograph all that is linked to people and I enjoy it very much. I meet many people and learn a lot. For example, photographing conferences is something very special, where I also catch the latest knowledge for free. Actually, I am paid to learn ;) But mostly I like trying out different stuff and luckily customers often ask me to photograph something new that I never did before.”
