Mája Horniecká and Jakub Bláha
Dear oikees,
I am Mája, the heart member and the President of oikos Prague. The first time I came across oikos was almost three years ago. I remember a curly-haired charismatic young man, who later turned out to be the then vice-president of the Prague chapter, speaking about Fair Trade and renewable energy sources. In that moment, I was sure that oikos journey was the right to follow.
During my involvement in oikos, I have been taking a great portion of inspiration out of all international gatherings beginning with the first CEE Meeting in Tbilisi, followed by Maastricht, Warsaw, St. Gallen and finally Copenhagen. I found out that the more inspiring and talented people I meet, the more I feel that it is worth trying to encourage students, academia, businesses and governments to think and actually act sustainably. Being part of oikos community is giving me the belief that we have the power to make things different.
Jakub who you could see on the picture next to me is the the vice-president of oikos Prague. He has been a part of oikos family for two years now. Jakub was welcomed by Lenka Parkanova, at that time the President of oikos Prague, as a scared freshman interested in sustainability and wanted to know more about it. As he was collecting more knowledge in the world of finance and economy he began to question the current paradigm more and more. Eventually, he assured himself that the shift to sustainable living is the key to a better future. That’s why he is now passionate about every opportunity for change we get here, in oikos Prague.
Three years in oikos passed in a flash and we are proud of the projects we have made happen. Together with a great team of oikees we realized several Recycle Fashion Parties, Anniversary Alumni Meeting, Alternative Finance Educational Block, Fair Trade Breakfasts.
On the top of that, we have currently been working on the CEE Meeting 2014 focusing on food systems and its sustainability challenges. Many outstanding speakers will arrive to Prague and share their experience and knowledge as well as discuss prospective solutions with you, oikos people!
We are looking forward to meeting you in Prague at the 3rd CEE Meeting Food(Re)Cycle!
Mája and Jakub
