30 Seconds with...
Pauline Sprenger, oikos Spring Meeting 2017, Project Leader
Hi :)
Some of you will know me, I met a lot oikees at the Spring Meeting 2016, FutureLab 2016 or the latest Spring Meeting 2017 in Hamburg. You are amazing! It was great one and a half years as an active member of oikos Hamburg and the oikos community. Now, I am an alumna and already left Hamburg. But I want to tell you about my experience during the organisation of the oikos Spring Meeting 2017…
It all started in March 2016 when I was at the Spring Meeting 2016 in Lille. It was my first international meeting with oikos and I came back to Hamburg feeling totally inspired and as a global citzen more than ever. And I wanted to create the same feeling for other oikees. As I heard that oikos International was still searching for a chapter to host the meeting in 2017, I spoke with the oikees in my chapter and grabbed this chance.
Yes, it was a big chance to integrate the oikos Hamburg chapter, new full chapter since March 2016, even more in the oikos community and to develop the chapter as a strong partner for sustainability projects and firms in Hamburg. But it also was a huge challenge for us, because we have never hosted such a big event and have never searched for sponsors before. But this didn’t stopped me from believing in our strenght and competences!
We had a long 8-month period of preparation… I have never written so many emails or phoned so many un-known people to ask them for participation and money :D First, it was hard and felt quite uncomfortable for me, but after a while, and strongly believing in our project, it became easier. Today, nothing would stop me from phoning the boss of a company and asking for a big bunch of money :D
Finally, the meeting was there, everything was planned and, surprisingly, worked out well in nearly every detail. It was a though time with some last-minute-organising and only little sleep, but it definitely paid off! Seeing everybody happy and engaging actively in all activities and hearing all the nice feedback, gave a great feeling.
It also gave me the power to start my master internship at Volkswagen with a lot of new energy, great enthusiasm and hope to make something big happen, again.
I would like to thank the organising team of the Spring Meeting 2016 in Lille, who inspired me; my organising team in Hamburg, without them I couldn’t have done it, especially Franzi, who was my advisor and always had the answers to my questions; and also Adrian and Levan for their support.
Always have fun! Never give up! We will change the world! See you soon :)
Best wishes and a hug to all of you
Pauline
