Saurav Kumar Das & Nimisha Ghorpade
Dear oikees,
I am Saurav Kumar Das (Skud) , the current President of oikos Jamshedpur. My association with oikos well and truly began as an enthusiastic participant at the oikos Asia Meet 2014 which was a great learning experience for me. I was part of the team that won the Green Quiz on sustainability and was also part of the team that was runner up in the ‘My Green Idea’ challenge. As President of oikos Jamshedpur, I lead a team of 18 to undertake highly productive and innovative projects on sustainable development. I am involved in organizing Joy of Giving Week in the city of Jamshedpur where we encourage citizens to come forward and get involved in acts of benevolence like donating food & clothes, sponsoring education of children and spending time with the differently abled community.
I am quite grateful for being given the opportunity to serve as an editor of the oikos newsletter. It gives me the platform to interact with oikees across the globe and bring onboard my earlier experiences as an editor of our college newsletter. I am thoroughly excited and look forward to the prospects of bringing exciting new stories to the oikos community. I eagerly look forward to attend the , the FutureLab and network with my fellow oikees.
Cheers!
Skud
Dear oikees,
I am Nimisha Ghorpade, a member of oikos Pune. A few months back, while researching on an article I came across the Asia Meet on the oikos website. The word sustainability and economics, immediately captured my environmentalist attention having just completed my Masters in Environmental Sciences. I wrote to Pratik, president of oikos Pune and I had the chance to attend an amazing conference with them. Post the Asia Meet, I had the opportunity to become a member at oikos Pune which is where I started my oikos journey. Before I knew it, I was attending the Summer School in Georgia and the CEE Meeting in Prague, all thanks to Pratik & Ankit. The Summer School was an eye-opener to sustainability in a social enterprise and a platform, where I met people from different backgrounds and ideas, inching towards saving the environment. Then, there was the CEE Meeting, in the beautiful city of Prague which captured my heart and made me rethink my role as a consumer. I realise that my time in oikos is how the Gerogians love their wine; more the time, greater the maturity. It has been a rollercoaster ride so far of making new friends, self-learning and satisfying inner futuristic questions which are like inner demons playing mental tag.
It's overwhelming that in a few months so much has happened. Being a passionate environmentalist who believes in nature and people, in that particular order, I always wondered how to equate economy with ecology and the dire consequences of people making a choice between the two. And that's what oikos has unravelled for me. In my free time, I can be found with a book reading in a quite corner, clicking pictures and educating women, children and the society. I love being woken up to songs, dancing like there's no tomorrow and writing poetry.
I look forward to this new inscribing journey with Saurav who is passionate about writing and everything in general.
Till then, saving one tree at a time.
Swaying hellos and squishy hugs ,
Nimisha
Hope you enjoy what we write and shower us with your appreciation as we take baby steps to evolve.
