CEE_meeting_tbilisioikos CEE Meeting in Georgia
The first oikos regional meeting on the topic of “Sustainable Agritourism” was held in Tbilisi last month, gathering a number of oikees from Central Europe. Levan Pangani and his organizing team from oikos Tbilisi did an outstanding job in the organisation of the event, involving key players in sustainable agritourism in Georgia, such as the representatives of the Ministry of Economics and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Georgian agritourism practitioners. Apart from reaching out to oikees in the area, the event got excellent national media coverage and praise. Have a look at oikos Tbilisi's Nino Buliskeria's wrap-up of the event on our blog or simply click below to read more.

30 seconds with...

hana_kadlecovaHana Kadlecová, oikos Prague Chapter member and leader of the Czech group at the CEE meeting, Tbilisi

After some time spent by sitting at university and having lectures which should give me some information about tourism in general and in our country and after getting some experience in this field I started seriously doubting my choice to do my Masters in Tourism Trade. I could not not see this mainstream massive tourism as my future career. Then, approximately a year ago, I joined oikos Prague. I met this group of young and enthusiastic people who woke me up and induced me to think about many things differently. They made me start searching for a connection between tourism and sustainability. This year was very important and inspiring for me. Aside from a few debates that were organised by oikos Prague where I met a lot of interesting people I got the chance to lead our chapter at the first oikos regional meeting in Tbilisi on the topic of sustainable agritourism. Our aim was to introduce the current situation in agritourism in the Czech Republic to other oikos chapters. In order to do this properly, I contacted several institutions dealing with this topic, such as the Ministry of Agriculture or the Ministry for Regional Development and some NGOs that operate in agritourism on the local level. In addition to that I got in touch with People in Need and the Czech Charity, two Czech NGOs which are currently running several projects in agriculture in Georgia. Getting to know these people and having the chance to discuss my topic helped me a lot. I hope to cooperate with some of these organizations in the future.
This year in oikos made me sure that the concept of sustainability is very important in the further development of tourism. I decided to write my Master's thesis about sustainable tourism in my region and would like to apply this concept in my future professional life.
