be informed - get involved - make a difference
Dear Reader,
September marks the kick-off of oikos’ high season. Chapters reconvene, strategies are drafted and deadlines approach. The CEE Meeting in Bratislava, the first online Alumni Debate, the Francophone Meeting in Brussels, the LEAP Meetings and the FutureLab are your building blocks for a great new academic year. Here’s a shortcut to oikos events that cannot be missed.
September started with a successful Summer School in Tbilisi. Read about the experience in the “30 seconds” with Anna Beyer and Julia Weber. We invite you to get on board the journey towards the FutureLab, to join one of our #WalkYOURTalk calls, and to apply until September 18th. See how you can engage others with your academic work on the Research Hub. You’re looking to be up-to-date? Then read the updates from our Learning Circles. For those who want to navigate the future, oikos Associate Christoph shares his latest research on Digital Economy and Sustainability.
And if oikos is close to your heart, but you’re far from being a student, join as an Alumni and meet like-minded peers. A first occasion will be the Alumni Debate Online on September 27th. And to top it all off, find an inspiring oikos story in the portrait of oikos Alum Cyril Quillien.
Happy reading!

30 seconds with...
Anna Beyer, oikos Executive Board Member 2016, Facilitator of the Summer School 2016 and Julia Weber, oikos St. Gallen President 2014, Facilitator of the Summer School 2016
"From September 1st until September 5th for the third time the oikos Summer School took place in Tbilisi, Georgia. The topic was "Education for a Better World". The facilitation was carried out by COMMIT, the group in oikos which focuses on learning methods and a change in curriculum at universities. We started the Summer School with an introduction to the various types of leadership and making them aware of the different learning types in humans. The goal was to reflect on the experiences on our own universities and with the knowledge of different learning approaches reflect on our personal ideas on what and how to learn at our universities. In the end the participants were able to connect the various global and local challenges of our generation with the leadership styles necessary to tackle them through facilitating their own learning sessions for the whole group. To us, COMMIT, this Summer School showed us how all kinds of amazing people around the world working on a common goal can make a difference and transform our education system into a more sustainable and wholesome learning opportunity for as all."
