March '16
be informed - get involved - make a difference
Dear Reader,
February was a win a for many of us. A universal plea was heard and Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his Oscar to give a talk on Climate Change. Moving on to the world of oikees, we got together and questioned how to feed the world at the oikos Winter School. There also was the LEAP webinar on fundraising and partnerships by Michèle Joanisse who works as Head of External Relations at DNDi in Geneva. As March approaches, we gear up for the oikos Spring Meeting in Lille, France which will be followed in April by the oikos Asia Meet in Vellore, India. There are also some very final reminders in this newsletter, such as the opportunity to apply to become the next oikos President, participating in the oikos PhD Finance Academy and more.

"“How to feed the world?” is a question that we do not give enough attention to the global issues that our generation will bear on our shoulders. After one week participated in 12th oikos Winter School I’ve learnt a lot about the problem through “eye-opening” lectures, interesting workshops, and intensive discussions. It went more exciting with all the speakers so passionate telling their works and problems they are trying to solved. The conference bring people around the world with various backgrounds make me understand the problem in different perspectives.

"I found oikos Winter School 2016 by chance. I had never even heard of oikos before and didn't really know what to expect from the experience. The main reason I decided to take part is because the topic of food security is something I find very interesting and what I want to focus on in my studies. I study geography in the University of Turku in Finland and I'm currently planning the topic for my master's thesis, something to do with agriculture and food production. In the Winter School I hoped to spend a week immersing myself in this topic, learning more about it and getting new ideas.
