Christina Ek,
President of oikos Copenhagen, 2012-2013
The General Assembly of oikos Copenhagen elected a new President for the coming year just last week and I officially went from being the President to being an oikos alumna. It is a mixed feeling that accompanies such a transition. On one hand, I now have a lot of time to think about my thesis without doing 50 oikos-related things on the side. On the other hand, those 50 oikos-related things have been my rescue from homework and exams for the past two years. Even a bleak, rainy week in Copenhagen is a treat when you work with fun, intelligent people who share the same interests as you do. Feeling the impact when 250 students sign-up for the extra-curricular course you helped organize, when the organization grows from 13 to 50 members, and when you get to help social entrepreneurs launch their business plan – it is the best kind of schoolwork procrastination!
Becoming oikos Copenhagen
When I became a member in 2011, our organization was not yet part of oikos. After participating in the Presidents’ Meeting and the FutureLab in St. Gallen, it became crystal clear that becoming a part of oikos was the right way to go. We were voted in as a full chapter at the Spring Meeting in Barcelona in 2012. We have now officially changed our name to oikos Copenhagen. Although our organization had a great brand after 10 years of existence at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), our members voted unanimously for the name change. In my opinion, that speaks volumes for the strength of oikos as an international network. The faculty and staff at CBS have also been very positive about our transition. We were mentioned among the highlights in CBS’ latest report to the UN on principles for responsible management education (PRME). Read the report here.
I am forever grateful for all the great experiences I have had and the amazing people I have met through oikos. Even as an alumna, I’ll never stop being an ‘oikee’!
