30 seconds with...

Francesca Stocco and Leila Kazimili
oikos network and sustainable fashion

Francesca, from oikos Lille:
The founding idea of oikos Lille is promoting the concept of sustainability as a business competitive advantage rather than as a simple CSR policy. Our project on sustainable fashion aims at making students aware of the dynamics inside the garment industry and at analyzing the challenges faced by corporations in adopting sustainability as a common business practice. Our two highly interactive workshops saw the presence of Dr. Pamela Ravasio, founder of texSture and author of the award winning blog Shirahime; Isabelle Quéhé, founder of the Ethical Fashion Show, Paris; and Ms. Sarah Ditty, editor of the Source platform at the Ethical Fashion Forum, London. Dr. Ravasio took us on a journey through the supply chain of the garment industry, making us realize the long travel of our clothes, while Ms. Quéhé and Ms. Ditty showed how their initiatives are pushing the garment industry to adopt a more sustainable kind of fashion. Both workshops revealed to be truly inspirational and we are thanking our speakers for their contribution.

Leila from oikos Konstanz:
I am happy to introduce our project Future Fashion Day which is a combination of our passion and our mission. May 3 will be dedicated to the different aspects of the sustainable textile and fashion industry. The aim is to raise awareness about the production process in the fashion industry: from raw materials to the retailer issues. For me, it is important to demonstrate that sustainable fashion can be cool, elegant, and chic. To achieve our goals, we invite speakers from the textile and apparel industry to share their knowledge by giving lectures and conducting workshops. The designers from Europe will showcase their sustainable collections during the whole day. We also thought of the younger generation, for whom we designed a Do-It-Yourself activity. The highlight of the day will be a catwalk in the evening, where our student models will present sustainable garments. This is certainly an ambitious project and we are looking forward to see as many oikees there as possible.

Francesca and Leila: We plan to join the forces of Lille and Konstanz and kick start our common sustainable fashion project. Wish us good luck!
