At oikos, we hope you have enjoyed the warmth and life-giving power of the spring that finally came with the first days of April. This month, we want to build on the excitement sunny days bring and share a wonderful news with you: oikos Suzhou, our first chapter in China, joined the oikos community. In addition, oikos Belgrade and oikos Lund became full chapters after a Legislative Assembly in the Spring Meeting.

oikos LEAP Webinar
"Campaigning in Universities"
oikos LEAP webinar “Campaigning in Universities” will take place on April 10 2018 at 18:00 CEST. We will have two brilliant speakers Sophia Tickell, Co-Founder and Partner at Meteos and J. Christopher Proctor, oikos Associate in Pluralist Economics. They will discuss how to influence people in positions of power using universities as the main example. The objective is to learn how to campaign for integrating sustainability in economics and management education.

oikos LEAP Advanced Meeting in Spain
On March 3, 2018, 26 oikess from many different parts of the world came together in Arenys de Mar, Spain for a LEAP Advanced Meeting. They had an opportunity to reflect on their beliefs and purpose, develop new skills and share experiences. In addition, the warm and supportive LEAP atmosphere enabled our participants to open their minds, understand their own behavior and get relevant feedback. The participants shared insights from the meeting in the article.

oikos Germany Meeting
oikos Reutlingen will bring together chapters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland to the Germany Meeting 2018 from May 4 to 6, 2018. The event is titled “Let’s talk about Tex” and focuses on sustainability in the fashion industry. oikos Reutlingen will offer a colorful program of interactive workshops, lectures and expedition tours through the world of fashion and textile. Apply until April 9.

Edutopia Summer Academy
Edutopia is a two-week summer academy taking place from July 2 to 15 in Vienna, Austria. This oikos Vienna project brings together 30 innovative and motivated young people to discuss higher education and prototype the future of learning at universities. The academy will focus on an overall sustainable world while taking into account personal growth and reflective awareness.

Knowledge Exchange in Barcelona
In March, oikos Outreach Manager, Clémentine Robert, brought the Knowledge Exchange Expedition (KEE) from Bangalore, India to Barcelona, Spain. She introduced KEE to the Spring Meeting participants and conducted a workshop to facilitate the exchange of ideas between developed and developing nations on the topic of Sustainable Tourism and Mobility. She reflected on her experience and discussed main takeaways from the Meeting in a report.

oikos Suzhou joins our Community
A group of sustainability-driven students at Xi ’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University came together to form the first oikos chapter in China. We are proud to welcome oikos Suzhou to our community and share our experience with them. They are bringing in unique perspective and understanding of sustainability and we are looking forward to dive into this new pool of knowledge.

Alumni Get Together in Paris
oikos Alumni will come together in Paris, France on April 19, 2018, at 7:30 pm. They will reminisce their time at oikos, discuss new sustainability challenges and prospects for innovation with a founder of EcoTree, a startup that makes quite unusual investments in Trees. A lovely cafe fluctuat nec mergitur will be a meeting point for a friendly exchange of ideas in Paris.

The oikos-PRME Research Hub is a unique platform for students in economics and management at all levels (Bachelor, Master and PhD) to share research on sustainability related topics within and beyond the oikos and PRME communities. The goal is clear: to encourage more and more students worldwide to write theses that address the sustainability challenges of our time.

30 Seconds with...
Pauline Sprenger, Head of Marketing for the EcoMap
Hey,
I am Pauline, an oikos Hamburg alumna and the new Head of Marketing for the oikos project EcoMap international.
When the EcoMap team approached me at the oikos Spring Meeting 2018 in Barcelona to work with them, I could only say “Yes”, because it is a great project!
The EcoMap is a web-based service that aims to promote sustainable and ethical consumption habits in urban areas by providing a map with spots and stores that provide sustainable products and services. We have local EcoMap teams currently in nine cities. They identify and evaluate local shops to bring them on the map.
I joined the team when it started a crowdfunding campaign to collect 15.000 €, a very critical moment in the project. With the fund, we want to improve our website, this means: easier handling, better design, new filter function and possibility for user comments as well as a blog about new stores.
We need support from the oikos community to implement our ideas in real life and to make sustainable consumption easier than ever before! Follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. Support our fundraising campaign on gofundme and spread the word.
