Levan_Pangani_profile_picLevan Pangani, President of oikos Tbilisi and coordinator of the CEE meeting

As a President of oikos Tbilisi, I am very pleased to have the opportunity of making my own contribution in promoting sustainability across Georgia. I’m a fourth year student at Tbilisi State University, Georgia, majoring in macroeconomics. I am happy that I am the one who had a chance to found oikos Tbilisi and organize a lot of remarkable projects through it.
As for the oikos Tbilisi projects, I can say that we are already quite experienced in organizing scientific conferences, as we lead annual conferences and involve more than 1000 students. With photo competitions, seminars, workshops, greening days, trainings and other interesting activities we try to make a contribution for the promotion of sustainability change and support economic growth.
Besides, oikos Tbilisi is proud of its innovative grant projects financed by Open Society Foundation, a Higher Education Support Programme. Only a few days ago, we have a finished 12 months long project about Examination of Higher Education in Georgia. We just started the second project about the youth organization’s role and its involvement in university life. We will be employing about 30 000 students in it across Georgia, who will be doing research, work on youth websites and many other activities. Thus, I believe that these projects are raising students’ awareness and help developing their sustainable development mindset.
It is worth to mention that I’ve decided to found a new structural unit of oikos Tbilisi: oikos Junior. It’s the first time that high school students are involved in oikos. They work on very interesting projects and try to promote sustainability among future change makers.
Finally, I would like to emphasize the first oikos CEE meeting, which is being held on 7-9 September. The objective of the oikos CEE Regional Meeting 2012 is to gather an international community of oikos members with the aim of sharing ideas and perspectives on sustainable agritourism and to enable the exchange of experiences from locally organised projects. It is time to bring all of us together and accelerate  sustainability in agritourism.
