oikos Academic
Last week we succesfully concluded the first ever Young Scholars International Economics Academy on the topic 'Management of Natural Resources and International Trade'. The Academy took place in sunny Geneva, while in Bangalore the oikos UNDP Young Scholars Development Academy on 'From Models to Markets for Inclusive Development' (see picture) gathered great feedback too. At the AOM Conference in San Antonio, Texas, we hosted a greatly-appreciated Academic Alumni event with Ivey School of Business and the ETH Zurich. We also held a professional development workshop (PDW) on case writing at breakfast, which proved popular despite the early hour. Presenters included Andy Hoffman (winner of the oikos Case Writing Competition 2011 in the Corporate Sustainability track), Kevin McKague, Ezequiel Reficco and Michael Pirson. In addition we published Issue 3 of oikos Case Quarterly, whichfocuses on sustainable mobility. Check out the featured case on Better Place by Dror Etzion and Jeroen Struben (McGill University, Montreal). If you're good at writing cases, then submit a case to the oikos Case Writing Competition 2012, there are tracks in both Corporate Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship, and you can browse previous winners through our online Case Collection.

Eliska Vejchodska, oikos Prague Alum
My name is Eliska Vejchodska, I am 33 and nowadays
I am busy managing my work at the University of Economics in Prague with raising my two small children. Many years ago I came across an oikos advertisement on a lecture of a leading figure of the Czech environmental protection. I joined oikos Prague and spent six years organizing many activities.
My current job is all about sustainability and especially about the variety of ways to protect the environment. I lead the Department for Environmental Economics and teach students the abilities to objectively and critically analyze political actions (including actions in environmental policy) from the perspective of their environmental consequences. It is my hope that this skill will positively influence my students’ thinking and behaviour. I am convinced that the activities of the oikos network have an impact. To me, it is not so important which type of activities you do. But it is essential that you reach people who care, that you make them think about sustainability and involve them in local actions. You have the power to make a real difference!
In cooperation with the Mercator Foundation Switzerland, oikos brings together ten students from India, the US, and Europe to blog during the WRF. Interact with our live blogging team atwww.studentreporter.org
