oikos Newsletter - August

be informed - get involved - make a difference

Dear Reader,

We are proud to announce the oikos FutureLab 2011, the first oikos event to gather our global family of student members, alumni, advisors, faculty, and partners. We are launching this new platform to provide not only a meeting point to share perspectives on the future, but also a "laboratory" to design initiatives and engage the oikos community in pursuing them. Find out more, or read on to find out how to get involved in other oikos  student, academic and alumni projects in August.

oikos Students

oikos Witten/Herdecke are busy organising the oikos Winter School 2011; apply now to join twenty student entrepreneurs for the intensive programme in Berlin from 6- 12 November! If you can't make it to Berlin, at least our internal network on ning has had a summer re-vamp to incPicture 5lude a skills coaching Project Guru and a chapter management Toolbox. Also, oikos Hamburg was voted to host the Spring Meeting 2012 on the theme 'Sustainable Lifestyle', congratulations to Hamburg! Our Student Reporters for the  World Resources Forum in Davos have already started their online training with social media expert Konstantina Zoehler.

oikos Academic

We have just announced two PhD Fellowship positions, particularly for students of Finance and Marketing, starting in Spring 2012 in St Gallen, Switzerland-spread the word! You may also have a look at the themes and participants at the upcoming oikos/UNDP Development Academy, and for excellent candidates we offer three places at the very first oikos International Economics Academy in Geneva. If you are attending the Academy of Management Conference in San Antonio, register for the oikos Case Writing Lab on Corporate Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship, hosted by Michael Pirson (Fordham University), and don't forget to submit your cases for the oikos Global Case Writing Competition 2012 by 28 October.

In July we recorded some new podcasts for our oikos Podcast series: Follow oikos PhD Fellow Kim Poldner's discussion with Prof. James A.F. Stoner (Fordham University) about whether Business Schools are cancerous to society, or dive into Research into Renewable Energies with Prof. Itai Sened (Washington University).

oikos Alumni

Picture 2From 5-7 August, the Alumni Convenors Group will gather in Amsterdam to strategise how to develop the Alumni network.  Students from oikos chapters will also join in order to exchange knowledge and ideas that could benefit both alumni activities and student projects.
