     HSG-Focus-4-2016-LEAP-940x425-1-940x425 3

Alexandra Horvath, Project Coordinator at oikos

I joined oikos Graz as a requirement for a class I took, but it turned to be a great decision. Later I became president, and soon joined LEAP not knowing how this journey would develop me. I’ve always had an interest in psychology and self-development and this program gave me the opportunity to learn so much about myself. After the first year, I could feel that I grew personally, even if I had the feeling that I should have dedicated more time to do the reflections thoroughly. When I then had the opportunity to stay engaged in the program as a coach I was very happy since I felt that the first year just kicked off my development and there was so much more I wanted to learn.

Being a coach helped me not only understand myself better but also taught me how to bring people that barely know each other together, create a safe space so they are willing to open up and support each other. I also learned a lot from all the participants and created strong bonds that, I hope, will last a lifetime. This is something special about LEAP – in a very short time you learn so much about these “strangers”, that you feel very connected and close to them. During my time as a coach, I also discovered that I would like to become a professional coach. By being a project coordinator for oikos and especially for the LEAP program I now get the opportunity to do that.

Over the last three years, we constantly improved the program and tried to make the experience for the participants even better. This year, for the first time, we also encourage Alumni to participate, because we think that they can contribute a lot to the program with their experience. We want to teach the participants how to replicate those exercises we do and for that reason, we plan to create a library where exercises are described in detail along with all the necessary tools. One of our goals for the program is also to grow so that more people can benefit from it and improve their leadership abilities. My vision for LEAP is that one day it is a worldwide known Leadership Development Program for young people, that facilitates young leader’s development, teaches them skills to solve global problems and lead their companies into a sustainable future.
