Debbie Yee Awarded Grant to Complete Poetry ManuscriptDebbie Yee was a recipient of a 2011 Cultural Equity Grant from the San
Francisco Arts Commission to complete a manuscript of poetry entitled, Gifting. As a part of this work, she will be partnering with Kearny Street Workshop this summer to offer a hands-on workshop on DIY Chapbooks and a

Passages: Honoring Black History at Ithica's Community School of Music and Arts
An interracial group of artists has come together to create Passages: Honoring Black History at downtown Ithica's Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA). The gallery exhibit features the work of four local artists of African descent--Raymond Dalton, Terry Plater, Richard Robinson, and Sharl Smith. In turn, these artists invited four guests to exhibit alongside them--Robert Andrade, Jay Potter, Lin Price, and AAWAA's very own Suzanne Onodera. If you're in the Ithica, NY area check out the exhibit, running through March 25th.

Magical Words: Transparent Images- Salma Arastu's Solo Exhibition

AAWAA artist Salma Arastu's new works were created as diptychs and combine her paintings
with Arabic Calligraphy. Through these paintings, she is trying to
convey messages about the celebration of diversity, unity, love and
compassion from Al-Quran to the people of the world with her lyrical paintings
of human universality.

made in usa: Paul Fong by Flo Oy Wong Unveiling  On March 11, 5:00-7:00 pm, Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College will host the unveiling of AAWAA artist and founding member Flo Oy Wong's 2010 piece entitled made in usa: Paul Fong. This new work is a continuation of Flo Oy Wong's seminal made in usa: Angel Island Shhh installation, which was commissioned by Kearny Street Workshop of San Francisco and for which the organization received a National Endowment for the Arts Grant. The ceremony will present the artwork to the Honorable Assemblyman's home constituency of the 22nd District. Fong, his family, and Flo Oy wong will be in attendance at the March 11th unveiling.
