Something 2 Eat a Success! Thanks!
Dear NCUD Team,

Last Saturday was an amazing success. We're still gushing!

As a "beyond the classroom" extension of our Future Profits program, NCUD has begun offering specific service opportunities. The goal is to get kids to lead and execute a project that would both help them learn about  justice and giving back, put those ideas into action, and build relationships with potential mentors.

Through the fall, NCUD partnered with Jeremy Affeldt (a pitcher you may know from the San Francisco Giants) and his organization for a project called 'Something to Eat' which packs and send meals to East Africa to alleviate hunger.

The idea was to push the kids to take charge and make this their project. It was offered in classes as an opportunity to act on what they were learning. A bunch of kids stepped up and organized fund raising efforts at school, educated peers about hunger in Kenya, and recruited classmates to come to a meal packing day.

Last Saturday over 280 FutureProftis students and volunteers showed up from Sequoia, Menlo-Atherton and Carlmont High Schools to help pack meals. In addition some of our partner organizations sent students. We had students and adults from Belle Haven Community School, College Track, East Palo Alto Youth Court, Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, Peninsula Covenant Church, Highway Church and others. Jeremy was there the whole day and had them stop periodically to learn about justice and poverty issues and reflect on the condition of the poor.

Click here to see a video from Comcast SportsNet that shows Jeremy Affeldt and the kids during the day.

What an amazing day - YOU helped make it happen! Thanks so much for your prayers and support! Our FutureProftis students had a day they will never forget (Jeremy called them 'his heros') and 130,000 means are headed to starving children in the Horn of Africa. What a success! Thanks for being a part of the NCUD team!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,

- John Liotti
