Fall is Bringing Many Changes!
I'll start with the sad news...Our Assistant Manager, Jade Emerson has decided to leave Thousand Hills Pet Resort (please refer to the Manager's Column for the good news). Jade writes: "Sadly I have to say goodbye to Thousand Hills Pet Resort and to all of the wonderful people and pets who make Thousand Hills Pet Resort such a caring, friendly, and fun place. I have to say goodbye because I am moving to Oakdale, CA to be with family and to start a new journey of my life. Thousand Hills Pet Resort has been such a great experience and I will never forget how wonderful it has been. To our wonderful customers, pets and staff, I say my goodbye: I will miss my extended family for that is what Thousand Hills Pet Resort has become for me. The dogs, cats, customers and staff have all become a huge part of my life and I will miss them immensely. I will miss all the wagging tails and slobbery smiling faces of the dogs. I will miss going into a yard and running around playing with the dogs. I will miss getting unconditional love from our fabulous group of dogs. I will miss our awesome customers, who are so wonderful and friendly. I will miss seeing how happy our customers are after seeing how much fun their dogs had. I will miss ALL the staff members and the fun times we have shared. I will miss the company and laughter of my fellow staff members and the care and passion they bring to the job. I will miss Thousand Hills Pet Resort. I truly am going to miss all of you! Jade"
We will certainly miss Jade! We are in the process of identifying a new assistant manager. We look forward to introducing you to that person once he/she is identified and hired.
Manager's Column
Now for the good news. We are in the process of making improvements to our driveway! We're currently getting quotes and from what we have learned so far, it is definitely going to happen. The extent of the improvements will depend on the quotes. I'm sure you are all as excited about this as we are. We send out a special thank you to our customer who has advocated for this improvement and who gave a generous donation to help make this happen! Thank You!
Also, training for customer's dogs has started. We already are working with quite a few dogs and we are thrilled! We appreciate your patience while we work on improving our organization with training and we get it all down smoothly.
Alpha Dogs
In case you have missed previous newsletters, Our Alpha Dogs Program takes in dogs who would otherwise go to a shelter and the dogs are trained by our Alpha students. The dogs who complete the program are able to be adopted with basic obedience training which includes learning to follow commands such as sit, stay, down, come, settle and leave it. They also learn basic manners such as loose leash walking and not to jump up on people. This experience for the students is better described by one of the students, Joshua. Joshua states, "This for me (Alpha Dog training) was the pivotal point in my life. Because you see, the dogs showed me something that I don't think I have felt since my mother passed away; that is love and not just any love, but unconditional friendship and loyalty. This brought out a joy inside me that I thought had been lost forever." You can help by adopting an "Alpha Dog", or by telling your friends about our Alpha Dogs Program and dogs available. Please see our Facebook page about the dogs we have available. You do not have to be a member of Facebook to access the page. You can go to our website to the Dog Blog and access our Facebook page directly from there.
Another way to help here at Thousand Hills Pet Resort is by donating a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, boat etc. and encouraging a friend to do so as well.
The proceeds of your tax deductible gift go to help fund the life changing work that goes on with Alpha students and Alpha Dogs at Thousands Hills Pet Resort. Click the link below for more information or to donate your vehicle today and be apart of doing good locally.
Groomer's Tip
From Nose to Toes...
A word about Australian Shepherds... "Aussies", a most beautiful breed, are very popular on the Central Coast and here at Thousand Hills. Excelling at obedience, conformation, herding and agility competition, they come with some grooming challenges. Because of their combination coat, a good line brushing two or three times a week is a must. Special attention to the thigh area, behind the ears, around the ruff and undercarriage are necessary to prevent mats and tangles and remove dead undercoat. Our brush out service can help you there. Remember this is an active breed that collects foxtails, stickers and all sorts of debris. Combine that with dirt and loose undercoat and you have matting which can cause hot spots and skin infections. When grooming our Aussies, I pay close attention to feet, hocks and pads. Scooping out pads and trimming between toes maintains a healthy foot structure along with nail grinding. Sometimes I'll hear "Oh, he's just a ranch dog, no need for grooming." As if it were only for the "foo-foo" breeds! The truth is, it's a health issue. Ranch dog or couch potato, your Aussie needs care. A cleanup of the sanitary area (front, urinary and back, under tail) is also in order for this indoor/outdoor breed. (It's especially nice for agility dogs). Thinning and shaping the fanny helps keep it clean and looks nice. Rear feathers should never go beyond the hock and front furnishings never hit the ground. Of course regular bathing, conditioning and ear cleaning with quality pH balanced products are also a must. I groom my most beautiful Aussies about every 5 weeks. This is a wonderful, gorgeous, intelligent breed, and one of my favorites. I'll be happy to take care of yours.

Daycare Dog of the Month!
Abby is September's Daycare Dog of the Month! Sweet little miss Abby is always willing to bring a bit of puppy energy to the play in daycare, and always seems to be able to lighten the mood, no matter who her play buddies for the day may be. Afternoons are a bit more relaxed, when you can find her lounging on a structure or in the shade in the close company of her friends, but as soon as she hears her name Abby is ready to play once again! Congratulation Abby, you are September's Daycare Dog of the Month!
