New Cat Building

We have our plans laid out, and will finally have a cat condo that is outside the boarding area. We are going to put at least 4 windows in the building, so the cats can see out, with a large window with a ledge for the cats to sit on and view their surroundings. We will add air conditioning for the summer months, and will have heat in the winter as well. Eventually we will expand to add an outdoor area for the cats to play with obstacles and toys. The new cat building should be open by Memorial Day. I will keep you up to date on our progress through Facebook, and look forward to seeing some of your feline friends!

Sincerely,

Trainer's Corner

By Monika Jud

To most of us dog lovers it is not a surprise that recent studies have confirmed the positive effects Therapy Dogs have on hospital and nursing home patients.

As a professional Service Dog trainer, I have participated in many Therapy Dog visits and had the privilege to see severely mentally challenged people reach out and interact with a Therapy Dog for the first time. Children who struggle in school enthusiastically read to a Therapy Dog laying by their side, and the terminally ill forget their pain for a moment, and smile while softly petting the head of a Therapy Dog sitting next to their bed. I have seen it so often, yet I am still amazed when I see Therapy Dogs communicate their unspoken message of comfort and understanding.

Do you have a people loving canine, who you think would do well as a Therapy Dog? Need help getting started? Thousand Hills Pet Resort is offering a 15 hour Therapy Dog Seminar in April. Our goal is to prepare you and your dog for a variety of Therapy Dog environments. This is not a dog obedience class, and all participants need to have a basic obedience foundation that we can build upon.

March Dog of the Month

IMG_0327.JPG

Hazel is one the most playful pups we have ever had here at Thousand Hills.  Whether she is sprinting around daycare, jumping on the play structures, or swimming in the pools, Hazel always manages to make a new best friend every time she visits.  Her irresistibly fun and lovable personality make her a delight to have around for both our staff and the other dogs here at THPR.  We are proud to say that Hazel is our March Dog of the Month.  Congratulations!
