Save the Date!

100_1029The Crystal Lake Food Pantry will be looking for you along the Independence Day Parade route, Monday, July 5.  Remember to bring a non-perishable food item to place in our shopping carts as we pass by.

Letter Carrier Food Drive Recap

On Saturday, May 8, the community united to help those struggling with food insecurity in and around Crystal Lake.  Residents put non-perishable goods out to their mailboxes for letter carriers to pick up.  Letter carriers transported these goods to the post office where they were weighed and picked up by Algonquin Township employees.  Area volunteers sorted goods at Algonquin Township in Crystal Lake.  When a community gets behind a mission, good things happen.  Thank you all!!

This year, the Crystal Lake Food Pantry received 15,182 pounds of food from the annual Letter Carrier Food Drive.  While years ago donations from this drive would carry us through the Summer months, that is just not the case anymore.  We continue to see an increased number of visits at the pantry due to the tough economic climate we have been experiencing.  Please keep us in mind as you head into this wonderful time of year filled with picnics, vacations, baseball, lemonade, swimming and sandals!

Glacier Ridge "Paws for the Pantry" Run a success

IMGA0605 On Sunday, May 16, 200 eager runners and volunteers came out in support of good health and hunger relief.  The event offered both a 1 mile and 5K run.  Participants collected over $1,350 in pledges to support the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.  In addition, Glacier Ridge and South High School students took part in a week long food drive leading up to race day, collecting over 3,000 pounds of food.  The idea for this event came from a few parents of Glacier Ridge students, who expanded the annual event from a school fitness initiative into a community service project.  We are so lucky to live in a city full of wonderful, committed and caring people.  Thank you!
