 Tillie's odometer turned 90,000, and I'm getting ready to return to my IL homebase next week,after my 5th cross-country journey. Am I done traveling? Nope.
The lack of awareness of homelessness, particularly when it involves kids, big or little, is dismaying. I still talk to kids and parents who encounter barriers to school. Our work isn't done!
HEAR US can't wait for the upcoming release of "on the edge," our feature-length documentary, an intense look at realities of invisible homeless families in America, (filmed and produced by Diane Nilan and Laura Vazquez).
Having completed several on the edge screenings during this 7-month trek, all I can say is watch out! This film shatters myths about homeless families and teens. It sheds light on little-discussed topics. It inspires.
I'm proud and delighted to be the messenger.

Get the word out! 
Empower families/youth at risk of homelessness about the ins-and-outs of McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) law. HEAR US offers a free online video, REACH, that thoroughly and simply explains EHCY for any viewer. Thanks to the folks at NCHE/SERVE, a helpline is available for case-by-case advice.
REACH flyers, English and Spanish, are also available. They're perfect--with helpline number, room for your local program info, essential EHCY tips--for distribution in shelters, jails, family court, etc.
This is a great training tool to distribute to during summer. Don't forget to let your public library know about the free online video.
