Dear friends, collaborators, and members of the Shape Up San Francisco Coalition,

As we enter the winter and perhaps prepare to make time for ourselves and our loved ones, I want to encourage you to take time to also join us as we plan for our collective good work.

This is a good time to retreat-- from the crowds of shoppers; the political headlines; the environmental crises-- and take stock of our progress.  Plan for where to invest our energy, in the coming new year.  And we will do so next week, at this next large gathering (over 50 RSVPs, so far!), where we will reflect, discuss and identify our way forward, in this last big push for our Strategic Plan "Refresh".  We'll also share some great food together over lunch, celebrating our work together.

If you can't join us, please tune in for opportunities to share your thoughts online in this "living" process. We'll share details soon about what we come up with, and how you can contribute.

Thanks for all you do, and may you enjoy your Holidays.

See you in 2018 at our Shape Up SF Coalition Meeting!
January 10, 2-4 PM location TBD.

HRSF crop logoIMG_5582In November, the HealthyRetailSF Program conducted produce handling trainings at 6 participating stores sites.  HRSF store owners/staff and resident leaders receive quarterly refresher training on how to properly maintain fresh produce, including tips on regular trimming, dipping, temperature regulation, seasonality, and storage.

HealthyRetailSF is currently undergoing the selection process for stores interested in the program/redesigning their stores in 2018.  An Information Session will take place on Wednesday December 13th at 2pm at 180 Turk Street (corner of Turk and Jones St.) in the Tenderloin.  Please share the flier! You can also always direct any interested store owners to our website to apply.

Children of all ages are invited to the Safe Routes to School 2017-2018 series of family biking events. Building on last year’s success, Shared Schoolyards, Presidio YMCA's YBike and the SF Bicycle Coalition will work together to present events for children, families and the whole neighborhood. YBike will bring bikes of all sizes for children's Learn-to-Ride; parents can Test Ride a Family Bike, and SF Bicycle Coalition’s biking teachers will lead a neighborhood ride for parents and children. Heavy rain cancels: if it's light rain, bring some rain boots and splash! Learn more about Safe Routes to School at these neighborhood events and bike event information.

January 20: Sunnyside Elementary 11am-1pm

Shape Up SF Coalition is in the midst of refreshing its strategic plan. We will be hosting a working meeting next Thursday, December 14 from 9-1. The goal of this meeting will be to select activities for the Coalition in each of it's priority areas:

This study is funded by the National Institutes of Health. We are conducting this body shape study to develop procedures to measure body composition from simple 2D and 3D optical images. This will be done by comparing the scanned shape of your body to the following measurements: the amount of fat and muscle in your body, the strength of your muscles, and the levels of known biochemical markers in your blood. We are looking for healthy participants ages 5-17 and 18-80 years old to participate. Participants are compensated with a $50 amazon gift card at the end of their appointment.
To learn more, contact the study coordoinator at (415)741-3454 or via email to and mention “Shape Up Adults study” if you are 18-80 or "Shape Up Kids Study" if interested for a 5-17 year-old.
