Workshops Update

We are sending you this short Action News Bulletin to let you know that the workshops you have been waiting for are finally scheduled - see details below.  Download the appropriate registration forms and get yourself signed up!

 

June 2 Composting Workshop

The Ecology Action Center is excited to announce our hands-on workshop where YOU build your own composter to recycle your food scraps and yard waste into valuable compost for your lawn or garden! 

Commercially available composters can range in price from $40 - $200 but the Ecology Action Center is offering this workshop at a cost of $20 for members of the Ecology Action Center and just $25 for non-members. 

Workshop includes: 
  • Instruction on conventional composting and how to get started Discussion of different types of composters 
  • Overview of vermicomposting 
  • Materials and instruction to build 2 32-gallon composters to take home and start the magic! 
  • BONUS! Each participant will also receive a one gallon lidded bucket for handy kitchen compost collecting!

Location details will be provided after your registration is accepted.

NOTE: Workshops fill up quickly; registrations are accepted in the order they are received. Registrations must include payment to be accepted; once capacity is reached all further registrations will be refunded. The fine print: Rain or shine. This can get messy so wear clothes that can get dirty. Bring an appropriate vehicle to transport your composter home. We will be using power tools; safety glasses are required and will be provided.

Build-your-own Rain Barrel Workshops Scheduled

Rain Barrel workshops are BACK!  Join us for your opportunity to build your own water saving rainwater collection and storage container. 

Commercially available rainwater collection and storage systems range in price from $75.00-$165.00 but the Ecology Action Center is offering this workshop at a cost of $28.00 for members of the Ecology Action Center and $38.00 for non-members. 

Workshop includes: 
  • 55 Gallon Reused Food Grade Heavy Gauge Plastic Barrel 
  • A universal adapter to attach your rain collection and storage container to your existing gutter. Will work with 4" and 3" rectangular and 4" round downspouts. 
  • High quality brass plumbing and rubber o-rings for a long life. 
  • Instruction and use of all tools needed for the project. 
  • Installation instructions included. 
  • ALSO INCLUDES: overflow fittings and hose to prevent water from spilling towards your foundation 

Workshop excludes installation equipment for your specific home:
 Installation (hacksaw, screwdriver, screws, (2) 8X8X16 concrete construction blocks) 

The fine print: Rain or shine. This can get a bit messy so wear clothes that can get dirty. The barrels measure 25" wide and 35" tall and weigh approximately 25 lbs. Bring an appropriate vehicle to transport your barrel home. There is a limit of one barrel per household per workshop. We will be using power tools; safety glasses are required and will be provided.
