Scarsdale Adult School E-News
|Greetings Lifelong Learners,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff at Scarsdale Adult School, I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season and end to 2017. As we prepare to put the year to bed, let's raise a glass to toast the year ahead -- and look forward to celebrating the 80th birthday of Scarsdale Adult School.
Our fall/winter semester courses resume at the end of the first week of 2018. If your new year's resolution is to take up a new hobby or learn a new skill, SAS is here to help. Our first class of the year will be Learn Bridge in One Day on Saturday, January 6, 2018, the perfect opportunity to develop a new talent.
Next semester's catalogs will be mailed in mid January but, as an e-newsletter reader, you receive priority notification that our spring/summer online registration will open on Friday, January 12, 2018. Mark your calendar for the date that next semester's amazing classes go live.
While you have your 2018 calendar handy, also be sure to reserve Thursday, April 12, 2018, for Tales from the 'Dale and Beyond, an evening of live storytelling. Those who want to spin their stories in the show should send an outline to Director@ScarsdaleAdultSchool.org no later than February 15, 2018.
Have a wonderful last few days of 2017 and see you back in the classroom in 2018!
Jill Serling, Executive Director
|Sing Along with SAS
Beat the winter blues by raising your voice in song. SAS is pleased to welcome Mary Feinsinger to our faculty to introduce a one-of-a-kind opportunity for those who find themselves humming to the radio or belting out a melody in the morning shower. Sing Broadway songs in an informal atmosphere in our Broadway and American Standards Sing Along on Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 7 to 9 pm at the Scarsdale Public Library.
No experience is necessary. This class is for those who love showtunes. Bring your smile and an enthusiastic voice.
Literary Special Event
On Thursday, February 8, 2018, Scarsdale Adult School will host George Saunders, author of Lincoln in the Bardo, winner of this year's Man Booker Prize. The evening will offer candid revelations about his inspirations and writing process with ample time for questions and answers. An Evening with George Saunders offers students a choice of a standard admission (Course 5556) or standard admission plus paperback pre-order (Course 5557). Pre-ordered books will be distributed at the event, additional books will be for sale on site, and the author will be signing copies upon request.
In anticipation of his visit, we are offering a reprise of Harriet Sobol's One Day Only Book Discussion of Lincoln in the Bardo on Thursday, February 1, 2018. Registration is limited, so please secure your spot now.

Last Chance to Participate in Campaign 2017
SAS is truly grateful to all our supporters, volunteers, students, instructors, and staff who collectively contribute to our longevity and success. Ever since opening our doors in 1938, SAS has beeen totally self-supporting. We neither request nor receive any money from the school district, the village, or any public source. Course fees and tax-deductible contributions from generous members of the community are our sole sources of funding for our comprehensive programming, the facilities we rent for classes, and our faculty salaries.
As a nonprofit organization, SAS prides itself on being convenient and affordable so that everyone has the opportunity and incentive to explore interests and passions without barriers. Tuition covers only a portion of our operating expenses. Gifts really do make our adult school possible.
We appreciate your tax-deductible donation of any amount as we strive to keep "opening doors to learning" for the community. Please consider donating to SAS today to help us continue our longstanding tradition of quality programs at reasonable prices in convenient neighborhood venues.
