War on the Shore Event

War on the ShoreDubai Sport Council, Martial Arts Academy (Dubai, UAE) and Dusit Thani Dubai are pleased to announce, that the renowned Muaythai (Thai Boxing) Championship “ War on the Shore-3” is finally back to Dubai.

The 3rd round of the “War on the Shore” Championship will take place on November 25, 2010, in Dusit Thani Dubai Hotel in frames of the Cultural Days of Thailand, held in association with the Thailand Embassy to the UAE and a General Consulate of Thailand in Dubai and Northern Emirates.

Ziggy’s Fruit Slush: That Cold Refreshing Drink

What you need to get started:

4 tbsp orange juicefruit slush
1 tbsp lime juice 1/2 cup sparkling water
2 1/3 cups frozen summer fruits (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries, 1banana)
4 ice cubes
Fresh whole berries.

1. Pour the orange juice, lime juice, and sparkling water into a food processor and process gently until combined.

2. Add the summer fruits and ice cubes. Process until a slushy consistency has been reached.

3. Pour the mixture into a glass

4. Add extra berries on top

5. Time to get busy with your Slush puppy!

Tabata Training: 4 Minutes of Exercise Enough for Fat Burning & Increase Your VO2 Max? Hell Yeah!

Tabata - people runningThe basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training/circuit training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we'll use sprints as an example here.

Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds

Walk for 10 seconds

Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets.

So what you have is a total of 4 minutes of workout time.

 

Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups. Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbbells, Kettle bells, medicine balls or just Bodyweight exercises. I'll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabata work.

Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. They did a study on comparing the effects of moderate intensity endurance (aerobics) and high endurance intermittent training (Tabata training intervals) on VO2 max and anaerobic capacity.

To cut to the results of the study: the moderate intensity group training program produced a significant increase in VO2 max of about 10%, but had no effect on anaerobic capacity. The high intensity group improved their VO2 max by about 14% while anaerobic capacity improved by 28%. The study was done over a six week period. Both groups working out 5 days per week.

 

So if your Fitness O2 trainer tells you he or she has a 4 min circuit for you…just smile and call your loved ones!

 

Fit-4-Work

Teamwork by Dennis TurlaFitness O2, in association with Meeting Minds Dubai organized a fun packed afternoon event for Tetra Pak staff at the Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa last month. As part of our Fit-4-Work programme, the only aim for the afternoon was to have fun which over 60 staff certainly did!
