Casey Overpass Public Meeting
Monday, November 21
5:30-6:00pm Open House | 6:00-8:30pm
Public Information Meeting
William Hinton Laboratory- Auditorium ( known locally as the State Lab)
305 South Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
This will be the next-to-last public meeting for the planning process and MassDOT will present the two alternatives from which a final solution must be chosen to go forward into the 25% design phase. This is the most important public meeting so far because it provides the forum for the public to voice opinions on the two alternatives (at-grade or new bridge).
The removal of the Casey Overpass presents a rare opportunity to revitalize and humanize the Forest Hills area. WalkBoston strongly supports an at-grade solution for the Casey overpass corridor. This project provides the chance to redefine Forest Hills as not just a place that traffic passes through or a terminus for the MBTA Orange Line but also as a vibrant neighborhood within Jamaica Plain.
An at-grade solution for the Casey Overpass Corridor offers important benefits for walkers:
· Safer and more convenient connections to transit
· Better connections between abutting green space and the parks of the Emerald Necklace
· Separate paths for walkers and cyclists
· No dark or hidden spaces in the corridor
Building a project that works for traffic and also provides a comfortable, safe and inviting environment for pedestrians is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will serve all users of the corridor and help to ensure the long-term vitality of the nearby residential neighborhoods and commercial district.
WalkBoston also belives that an at-grade solution must not result in drivers using Stonybrook residential streets as cut-through commuter routes. MassDOT and the Boston Transportation Department can work with local residents to implement proven techniques to prevent this from happening.
We encourage you to show your support for the at-grade solution and attend the meeting if possible. We also ask that you spread the word about the meeting and let others know how important an issue this is for Jamaica Plain, Forest Hills and the Emerald Necklace.
If you cannot attend the meeting, we urge you to send a comment letter in support of an at-grade solution to:
