Estimad@ Amig@ {FIRST_NAME},

Earlier this year, the Port of Seattle made the decision to host Shell and their Arctic drilling rigs in Seattle with very little public discussion beforehand. The Shell No! Action Council is coordinating a mass demonstration to confront Shell and the climate crisis. There will be a three day long festival of resistance, including a blockade with hundreds of kayaks and boats, from May 16 through May 18 that will nonviolently block Shell’s preparations for Arctic drilling. Knowing the severe consequences oil drilling has on our planet and health, El Centro de la Raza is helping to get the word out about this action. Visit shellNO.org for more information.

Join us for our Cinco de Mayo celebration that kicks off this Saturday, May 2nd, at Jefferson Community Center! This celebration empowers our community to be proud of our cultural heritage with traditional clothing, music, dancing, and food. Our Cinco de Mayo celebration is not only a fun-filled event, it is also an important way to build community as we spread awareness of Mexican history and foster appreciation for cultural diversity.
There will be a "Desfile Cultural” or multicultural fashion show where we invite children, youth, families, and community members to participate by wearing their traditional clothing. We invite people of all cultures to participate by wearing their own traditional dress in a fashion show that will express racial diversity and unity in our community.

Last year's Cinco de Mayo Desfile Cultural.

El Centro de la Raza’s 10th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration will take place on Saturday, May 2nd from 3:00-8:00pm at the Jefferson Community Center! It is free to the public and features live entertainment, local vendors, a health and social services fair, and traditional food for sale. The groups performing at this year’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration include: Folklore Mexicano Tonantzin, 4 en la Mira (Grupo Norteño), Alex Luengas (la Voz Bohemia), Rolando Martinez (Cantante), Duo Finelli, Club Veros, Chief Sealth International's Mariachi Las Aguilas, and Latin Dance Group. We are excited to share and celebrate all of our cultures together! Please RSVP at: (206) 957-4630, cultura@elcentrodelaraza.org,  or www.facebook.com/elcentro72.
