Ways to Give

Make a Donation in Honour of Your Child's Teacher

What could be more meaningful to a teacher than knowing that you helped provide support for children in their community who need it.

This year forego a teacher gift and make a donation in their honour.

Dear Friend,

With all the rain we've seen, it almost felt like we would never see beautiful Spring weather but here it is! There are a lot of new things sprouting up, regenerating and growing at The Children's Foundation. New this Spring is our Paris In Spring breakfast event which will be a delicious way to support Food and Friends - mais oui! On the regeneration side of things - we are happy to report that this year's Fore Our Kids golf tournament raised over $20,000 - up $5,000 from last year. A big part of that is due to the amazing and dedicated volunteers who work on that committee.

As for growing, we recently approved our 2010 audited financial statements, and we're happy to report that with all of your amazing support, more children in Guelph and Wellington are able to learn at school with full tummies, enjoy sports, music and camp, have big smiles on Christmas morning and are able to head off to post-secondary schooling. Thank you for helping them grow in a healthy and positive way!

Kids Speak From the Tummy

FandFPacmanQuote
If you ever have the opportunity to visit a student nutrition program, you will see a lot of enthusiastic and happy faces. So much so that the comments that these children make are a wonderful combination of cuteness and humour.

“If you don’t eat healthy you will feel hyper and then you will feel really bad. If you eat healthy you will get strong bones and will not be a weakling. - Robert, grade 3 student.

“When I was hungry and my heart was empty you gave me food and for that I’m grateful for the way you helped me! My heart is full!” Savana

“Thank you for the snack
Now I’ll give you something back
You gave me some energy to have some fun
So I could also run.”
-Jameel

Help us continue to support these children and "helping to fill our empty stomachs when we had nothing else to eat" by attending our first annual Breakfast Event "Paris In Spring" on June 8th at 7:30 am. Tickets are only $40 and include a French inspired breakfast served by local chefs and the premiere of an amazing video which visits a few nutrition programs.

Supporter Profile: Bill & Donna Harrison

Bill & Donna Harrison who support children in our community throughout the year through the Adopt-A-Family and Grants Program recently reflected on why they have chosen to support these programs.

"We firmly believe by supporting children throughout the year; by enabling opportunities to participate it will promote positive self esteem and enriches their lives immensely through the development of life enhancing tools; the chance to make new friends and be positively exposed to the community in which they live."

Snapshots

34 foursomes braved the rainy weather on Tuesday and raised over $20,000 for the children in Guelph and Wellington County – far exceeding the $15,500 raised in 2010. The money raised from this tournament goes towards helping the programs at the Children’s Foundation including the Grants Program and Food and Friends.

In the News: Active Healthy Kids Canada Report

Active Healthy Kids Canada recently released their 2011 Report Card. The Report Card activeheatlhykids2011 2gave an overall F to Canadian children - only 9% of boys and 4% of girls are reaching the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines. Theses results are staggering, and mention that children from low-income families are one of the groups most at risk of not participating in enough physical activity. The report also mentions that the participation in organized physical activity as a child positively relates to the frequency of physical activity in early adulthood.

Take a moment to read the report.
