What is the 1 thing you did in July....
Atlas Corps

What is the "1 thing" you did in July? It is a great way to reflect on a month, especially as time moves so fast. It is also aligned with our recent Do1Thing Campaign - a virtual movement to highlight the "1 thing" we each do to improve our world. We received responses from around the world that highlighted each individual's unique approach to get involved. It also enhanced my personal commitment to my "1 thing," which is to "invest in the next generation."

Everyday, I interact with emerging global leaders of tomorrow who are already achieving impact today. I am convinced that investment in these individuals is the most effective means to improve our world. They gain the skills and build the networks that empower them to address social issues. These issues range from education to community health to conflict resolution to the environment. Impact goes beyond geographic boundaries, political borders, and cultural different. This concept inspires Atlas Corps to grow our global network and motivates us to engage with other like-minded initiatives such as the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and the Nexus Global Youth Summit. Read on to see the highlights from these gatherings and to experience how our Fellows and Alumni are achieving impact today.

Also, on the horizon, Atlas Corps announces Class 16 in August! Get ready to welcome the newest Fellows and Host Organizations to our network of 300 Fellows from 60 countries serving at 120 Host Organizations.

Thank you for doing "1 thing."
Thank you for supporting the next generation of leaders.

Thank you for being part of Atlas Corps!

Atlas Corps Partners with Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)

Atlas Corps and YALI
Washington, DC - In June 2014, 500 promising leaders from Africa traveled to the United States as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship to study at top universities. Among these participants were many Atlas Corps Community Leaders, a virtual network of selected Atlas Corps finalists connected through LinkedIn to share knowledge and resources. Of these 500 participants, 100 Fellows will remain in the United States to participate in an eight-week internship. Atlas Corps is honored to host Isaiah Owolabi (Nigeria) starting in August.

(l to r) Atlas Corps
staff members (joined by Maiko Nagakaki of partner organization CIPE) Ebben Wiley Bell and Nicole Pytlik participated in the YALI Expo in Washington, DC. "Amazing! This gathering of talent renews faith in the future," expressed Ebben. "We also felt like minor celebraties. Many YALI participants know Atlas Corps and are eager to get involved." Atlas Corps looks forward to being part of YALI now and into the future.

Our Do1Thing Campaign Is a Global Sensation!

Global - Thank you! Our Do1Thing Campaign was, and continues to be, a success! In June, Atlas Corps launched a virtual campaign to celebrate the "1 thing" we all do to positively impact our world. The response inspired. Hundreds of people in our network shared their #Do1Thing photos, posted on social media, and donated to our GlobalGiving project.

Our Alumni from South Sudan, (l to r) Lukudu Williams (Host: National Endowment for Democracy) and Hakim Awuok (Host: Lost Boys Center for Leadership Development), even sent this "go serve your country" photo. Lukudu and Hakim are collaborating on a project in South Sudan with IREX and IIE to recruit Secondary School Teachers for a one semester course with the Arizona State University. Atlas Corps Network, we thank you for doing your "1 thing" to improve our world. Change your perspective, change the world!
