Interfaith Build Needs Volunteer Groups

We still have lots of openings for churches to participate in our Interfaith Build.  Kickoff is September 11.  We need church groups to sign up for the following dates:

September 13, September 17, September 18, September 20, September 24, September 25, September 27, October 16, October 23, October 30, October 31, November 6, and November 8.

All September dates require 30 people, so more than one church can sign up for each date!  October and November dates require 10 people for finishing, so the groups can be smaller.  If your church would like to partner with another church to recruit the required number of volunteers, you are welcome to do this.  The Interfaith Build is all about coming together despite theological differences to make a difference in our community.  For more information on how your church or faith-based organization can help, click here for the info packet and then call Anita or Jennifer at 251-476-7171.

Mark Your Calendars for World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day is October 5 and this year, we plan to celebrate in style!  If you have ever volunteered on our worksite and would like to do it again, this would be a great day to get involved!  We are planning a special build on that day, and we want you to be involved!  Special prizes will be given away, lunch will be provided, and it will be a fun day out on the work site!  So sign up now - individuals and groups accepted!  Call Jennifer at 476/7171 for more information or click here for a flyer you can hang at your business or organization to help recruit!

Volunteer Update

August Volunteer Recap

A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers that came out to work with us in the August heat!  We certainly accomplished a lot!  Three homes in the Irvington subdivision of Magnolia Crest were finished and dedicated.  Finishing work was started on the Brannon house in Fairview, and on the Durden house in Grand Bay.  We had several high school and college students, as well as teachers, that worked with us up until the day before school started!  We also had a tremendous response from the appeal that was sent out at the end of the month for help on a new build in Grand Bay.  A special thank you is in order for the Coast Guard!

September Opportunities

Work will continue on both houses in Grand Bay, finishing and framing.  The framing, roofing and siding of the new build will continue for the next two weeks. There is a goal to recruit 25-35 volunteers each weekday for that build, so please don’t hesitate to sign up! We will also continue work on the house in Fairview, two houses in Magnolia Crest in Irvington, and start the finishing process in Cedar Point Landing off of Dauphin Island Parkway.  A new house will be constructed in Hillsdale, beginning September 11, for the Interfaith Build.  We are still looking for faith-based groups to sign up for several framing dates and some finishing dates.  Please see details below.  Now that school is back in session, it is more difficult to recruit volunteers for weekdays, so please let us know if you are available Tuesday-Friday, 8am-4pm, and want to volunteer.

September and October Homeowner Orientations Scheduled

Know someone who is interested in our program?  Invite them to our homeowner orientation!  Our next orientation is September 19 at 10 a.m.  In October, there will be two orientations, on the 8th at 6 p.m. and on the 24th at 10 a.m.  Orientations are always held at our ReStore Home Improvement Center at 4128 Government Blvd.  Be sure to arrive early!  If you need to know what to bring, call our office at 251-476-7171 and talk to any staff member.  We can all tell you about the program and what to bring to orientation.

Community Orientation Scheduled for September

For anyone who has ever wondered about Habitat for Humanity, we have an easy way to learn more!  A community orientation will be held on September 26 at 10 a.m. at the Hillsdale Community Center located at 558 Felhorn Rd. East in Mobile.  In only one hour, you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about Habitat!  Bring friends with you and find out how you can get involved! Click here for a flyer with more information.  Print it out and hang it up to get more people interested in this great opportunity!
