Volunteer Update!
647 Volunteers for the month of October. Goal is 1380 a month, or up to 60 per day, Tuesday-Saturday.
What a great month! We would love to give a big thanks to St. Paul’s Episcopal School, UMS-Wright, Murphy and Mary G. Montgomery for providing such outstanding volunteers last month! Because of the hard work and dedication of these students, HfHMC was able to finish two houses, start a house, prepare walls and siding for upcoming builds, and help us get caught up on projects that had fallen behind schedule because of the weather. We also had some help from a group of students that came from Florida State University. Kudos to American Equity Underwriters for taking a Friday out of the office to work in the rain, and to Upshaw Homes for help on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to help with the building blitz. Not to be outdone, a group from Thyssen-Krupp came out on a Saturday to help us get caught up on a house behind schedule. We have had a solid turnout from families in the Habitat program, even those that have completed their sweat equity hours! Interfaith Build in Hillsdale is behind schedule because of the rain at the beginning of the project, but we are working steadily to get back on schedule.
We held two dedications this month for two wonderful families, Karen Durden in Grand Bay and the Brannons in Fairview. The Durdens and Brannons will continue to partner with us by volunteering on our worksites, and we wish them all the best in their new homes. October has been a busy month, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
We will be starting four houses back to back in the upcoming weeks. Two raised floor houses will be built in Theodore on Bellwood Dr. E. One started October 29 and the other started November 5. As we continue to work on those, we will start another home in Fairview on November 12. Fairview is just past Semmes, off of Moffett Road. The following week, we will start framing a house in Irvington on Magnolia Crest. We will need 30 volunteers a day for each build, so please contact Jennifer or Matt at (251) 476-7171 to sign up. You can also email Jennifer at jtidwell@habtiatmobile.org to let her know when you are available. Saturdays fill up very fast, so you will need to schedule groups in advance for those dates. Our greatest need is Tuesday-Friday. Half-days are an option if you are unable to commit for an entire day.
Donations make great Christmas gifts!
As you plan your holiday shopping this year, why not consider a gift that gives back? You can donate to Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County and we will send a card to the person you wish to honor with your donation!
