Art For Progress Artist Happenings


With briskness in the air and the holidays around the corner, get out there and experience some great art, fashion and music! Here at AFP, we are busy preparing for the Fountain Art Fair and an exciting party in Miami next month.

We are also happy to present our new blog located on the AFP homepage, edited by Heather Liggins. There you can find the latest information on AFP, our artists, special events, musings, and art education updates. If you did not see it yet, our full-page feature in the NY Daily News can be found there as well. AFP artists are also busy this month with some fascinating shows and events. Check it out!

Visual Artist::   Lance Dehne'


Artineering is about "design-build". It is about art, engineering, mechanics, botany, ornithology, ideology, physiology, sculpturology, colorology, and visionology.


Fashion Design::  Kari Smistek


Kari Smistek is the designer and creator of Clementiny Clothing. Clementiny Clothing is completely hand made with 100% re-purposed and recycled materials.


Music::  Zef Noise

Zef Noise is a NYC based artist one of the original members of AFP, the former Sweet Lizard Illtet frontman, electronic violinist, vocalist and composer. Zef has been creating music for commercials, documentaries, theater, dance and with his own bands for over 20 years.

Filmmaker:: Edgardo Parada 


Edgardo graduated with a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He was born and raised in Metro Manila, Philippines and migrated to New York City.


DJ::  Jimmy Sky

Jimmy Sky was raised in the NYC dance music scene. He learned how to mix records in Queens at his uncle’s record store when he was eight years old, and hasn’t stopped bringing his skills to the decks ever since.

*November 26th, 7pm-Midnight::  Live 104 Presents: Funk the Winter Blues Art Party

Check out this collaborative winter art exhibit featuring works by Tray Lynn, Liz Krov, Alex Hine, and AFP artist Amy Row. They will show a feature film, "The New Jacks", by John Vincent Vargas followed by a night of funk music. Bands include: The Golden Magnolias, The Cheating Intention, and more to follow. AFP's Gatto will play a set for the Tribe showcase on Montreal's Techno.FM. This is his monthly guest spot on Elliot Dehoyos' weekly show. Go to Techno.FM to tune in!

*December 4th, 2011::  Art For Progress Art Basel Closing Party

Art For Progress will wrap up the Fountain Art Fair in Miami on Sunday, December 4th just in time to host a closing party at The Vagabond in downtown Miami. It will be a night of many artistic genres featuring music, fashion, film, and performance art! AFP fashion designer Lila Nicole Rivera of Miami will showcase her creative swimwear, and award-winning film maker Daniel Maldonado is curating the evening's films. *Ongoing::  Have Your Music Played at Materials for the Arts!


Materials for the Arts is looking to play albums from local artists during shopping, and then put the CDs out for recipients to take for free. They will let recipients know that the music comes from local bands, and will of course highlight albums that come from fellow recipients. It will be a great way for bands to get exposure, for shoppers to experience awesome music! If interested, or for more information, contact Kevin Stirnweis at Materials for the Arts.

Ethan Cohen Fine Arts is pleased to announce The Fabric of Life, an installation of video and prints by Ali Hossaini. In a 2010 review, the New York Times described Hossaini as a "biochemist turned philosopher turned television producer turned visual poet." Ali Hossaini's work has been exhibited in venues such as the Lincoln Center, the Museum of the Moving Image, Anthology Film Archives and the Montreal Festival of Film on Art.

*December 1st, 2011-4th, 2011::  AFP to Exhibit at the Fountain Art Fair, Art Basel Miami


We are pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting at Fountain Art Fair during Miami's Art Basel, December 1-4th. Since its inception in 2006, Fountain has held five exhibitions in Miami, one in Chicago, and six in New York. From its roots deep within the independent Williamsburg art scene, Fountain has grown to represent over 20 international avant-garde galleries and projects, showcasing progressive primary-market works.

Best of Artists and Kennedy Publishing are proud to announce their call for entry for the Best Of Artists Genre art book competitions. Open to all artists. Genres include: Portrait & Figurative, Landscapes, Still Life, Wildlife and Abstract book competitions. Selected artists will receive a TWO PAGE FULL COLOR LAYOUT of their artwork (a total of 2-4 images), and their contact information in a beautiful full color case wrap hardcover Best Of book. *Upcoming Travel Opportunity for February, 2012:: The Trek Cum Art Workshop, Nepal 


In February 2012 MYS is organizing an Art Workshop involving both Nepali and international artists. We believe that such a trip would not only provide the artists the opportunity to explore less traveled regions of Nepal and express their impressions in their chosen medium but will simultaneously allow an exchange of cultural and artistic insights. The 12-day trek cum Art Workshop will take place along the Tamang Heritage Trail in Langtang Valley of Nepal. If you're interested in more information e-mail -
