Dogwood Dell Trails Grand Opening

The grand opening of the new Dogwood Dell mountain bike and hiking trails will take place on Saturday, March 17 at 2pm.

Join Richmond-MORE and the City of Richmond Trail Care Crew for a grand opening celebration. We will be reserving the shelter next to Barker Field (Dog Park) for a cookout and presentation of the new trails. Afterwards we will go for a ride and a hike on the new trails.

We're looking forward to seeing you there.

When: 2pm Saturday, March 17, 2012

Where: Dogwood Dell Picnic Shelter near Barker Field

Belle Island Skills Area

Volunteer days for the Belle Island Skills area will start on Saturday, March 31st. We're planning two big volunteer weekends on May 5-6 and 12-13, so mark your calendars now. We'll need all the help we can get so we can open this second big project of the year by Memorial Day! More details to come...

Richmond MORE would like to give a special thanks to REI. In addition to organizing several trail volunteer days, REI has made several generous grants to Richmond MORE over the past couple of years that have helped pay for Bill Blythe to bring his Sweco to Dogwood Dell, replace bridges on Buttermilk and Northbank and to construct the Belle Island Skills Area. So the next time you're in Short Pump, stop by the REI store and show your appreciation for all they have done for our trails.

New Belgium Urban Assault

There is a less than two weeks until the big debut of the Urban Assault Ride here in the River City!

However, about 15 volunteers are still needed to make it a success.  Richmond MORE has fulfilled its obligation to recruit 15 volunteers for the manager positions (a big THANK YOU to those who have signed up – you know who you are)!  But Adventure Fit, the company that is organizing the race, is still looking for folks to help out.

If you aren’t planning to ride in the race, but would like to participate and have fun, please visit the Urban Assault website and sign up.

Go to and click where is says “Sign Up Here” for Richmond 3/25. There you will see the list of volunteer positions and you can read the description for each position.

Keep in mind that events like the Urban Assault, XTerra, Riverrock and the 2015 World Cycling Championships are what will help make Richmond a world-class cycling venue!

One other quick note:

If you are planning to race, but have not registered yet, you can have your registration fee waived if you volunteer for packet pickup the Saturday beforehand (March 24th) from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Crossroads Coffee.   Both team members must be present for the entire time in order to get a free entry.  No refunds for those who have already registered – sorry!

Please contact Tee at Adventure Fit directly for more information or if you have any questions,

Your help and support is greatly appreciated!
