The reality is:
Urban Greens will not open unless interested community members like YOU get involved. Become a founding member and know that you helped make it happen. Immediately you become part-owner of a cooperative business. 100% of all membership fees will be used as equity in the pursuit of the funding necessary to open on the west side of Providence.
Urban Greens wants you to know how important it is for local farmers to have an outlet to sell the fruits of their labor. We asked Catherine Mardosa and Matt Tracy, owners of one of RI's year-round farms, Red Planet Vegetables, why they became founding members of Urban Greens and why it is so important for you to join, too:
"Red Planet has been involved with Urban Greens for as long as we've been growing vegetables. Having come up and grown in the same garden, so to speak, our roots are intertwined. We exist because we wanted to respond to the need for fresh produce on the West Side and these folks have been supporting us in that goal right from the start. We have no doubt that Urban Greens Food Co-op will be a partner to Rhode Island farmers, and that the membership shares our vision for a sustainable future. At last we will have a year-round market for our produce that releases us from the job of selling our greens in our driveway, or out of our front hallway through the winter!"
-Catherine Mardosa and Matt Tracy, Red Planet Vegetables, Providence, RI
Given the opportunity, who wouldn't want to support farmers like Catherine and Matt? Our goal at Urban Greens is to give everyone that opportunity, but we can't do it alone.
