Double Nickels on the Dime: A Tribute to the Minutemen

Three Chicago-area musicians have come together to pay tribute to the endlessly influential career of the Minutemen. The band, Econoline, will play the Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime LP in it's entirety with an amazing cast of guest vocalists.

Don't miss this one-night-only event featuring Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, Dianogah front man and poster artist extraordinaire Jay Ryan, Cap’n Jazz/Joan of Arc mastermind Tim Kinsella, fellow suburban punk rocker and Gauge/Haymarket Riot guitarist Kevin J. Frank, avant garde pop-rocker Bobby Conn, Chic-a-Go-Go’s own Miss Mia & Ratso, Golden Horse Ranch Band square dance sensation and The 1900s crooner Jeanine O’Toole, garage pop newcomer and Tyler Jon Tyler front woman Rebecca Flores, now-wave pianist Azita Youssefi and many, many more!

 

Advance tickets are available for only $12. All of the evening's proceeds benefit Girls Rock! Chicago summer camps.


When Flying Feels Like Falling Part of the Next Big Thing Tour

Girls Rock! alum band When Flying Feels Like Falling is set to play a battle of the bands event as part of the Next Big Thing tour. Prizes include 20 hours of free recording time, so come out and show your support! Girls Rock! Chicago will be once again be offering two sessions of girls camp (yay!) and a session of ladies camp this summer. We’re working hard to confirm dates and locations and are anticipating posting applications in March. We will announce applications in our mailing list and on our website as soon as they are available. Keep checking our website, Facebook, and Twitter for updates.



Gear Loan Renewal is Here


The time has come to renew your Gear Loan! Girls Rock! and Ladies Rock! alums, this is your quarterly opportunity to rent out equipment from our inventory. All gear loans are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Rental rates are offered on a sliding scale and regardless of ability to pay; financial aid is available, and everyone is encouraged to apply. A small refundable deposit is required for new gear loans. If you would like to participate, please contact adrienne@girlsrockchicago.org, and she’ll send you request forms, financial aid forms, and a list of FAQs. If you currently have instruments or equipment out on loan, we’ll be contacting you  very soon with all the info you need to renew or return your instruments.

WHPK and Girls Rock! Chicago

We are holding a meeting to discuss the current content of the instrument zines, brainstorm potential zines, and edit what we have for the 2011 camp year! Zine makers, musicians, friends, artists, instructors, teachers, or anyone else who might be interested in curriculum, please email Jessica at jessica@girlsrockchicago.org for more details.

Girls Rock! Chicago is excited to announce summer internship opportunities. We bet you or someone you know is interested in learning more about running a non-profit, fundraising, outreach, or working with kids while helping make 2011 GR!C’s best year yet. Send us your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you want to work at GR!C and what you can bring to the organization.
