Hello friends,
We salute all the victorious net neutrality campaign efforts which have enabled the data packets of this email to reach you un-throttled. This month, we are preparing workshops at our Nonprofit Tech Center in San Francisco, packing the van for a California training roadshow, and arranging the chairs for collaborative events on many coasts.
We welcome you to join us...
Spanish-language capacity building
Since our capacity building days in the California Central Valley, we have hoped to create Spanish-language resources and workshops for frontline organizations. Our first Spanish-language workshop was held at the SF Tech Center on March 24. Check out the upcoming Spanish-language workshop, share the invite, and reach out with thoughts or questions: talleres@aspirationtech.org.
- Procesos para Comunicaciones con Impacto (Processes for Online Communications):
- Spanish-language workshop on Tuesday April 14, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm @ the SF Tech Center. Register here...
Thanks Jack, Maegan, Lena, Sulá Batsú, and Congregations Building Community for the support over the years to help make this happen. We are excited to share these workshops in our upcoming roadshow.
California training roadshow
After an informative Listening Tour with nonprofits in Los Angeles, we are looking forward to heading back on Highway 5 for a CA Training Roadshow from May 1 to May 8 to host participatory technology workshops. We have a few stops lined up so far:
- Social Justice Technology Skillshare on May 6 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at Mercado La Paloma. Sign up here.
- Talleres de Comunicaciones para Organizadores Comunitarios (Workshops for Community Organizers):
- Collaborative workshops co-organized with IDEPSCA on Friday, May 8 in LA. Save the date.
We can't wait to see you on the road. Reach out to us if you want to connect.
Workshops at the SF Nonprofit Tech Center
In an effort to open up our SF Tech Center to more dialogues with nonprofit staff, rad developers, and activists, we are creating and inviting more workshops into our shared community space. See what we have going on in April.
- Art Business Model Canvas: Facilitated by ArtSpark, this workshop is designed for artists and other creatives who want to create a practical business plan for their art business or career. View the flyer here. This is a two-part workshop, with two sequences to choose from. Register for either pair:
- April 20 and 27 (Monday evenings)
- April 21 and 28 (Tuesdays evenings)
Sign up for Humanitarian Tech Festival
Building on our new efforts to support humanitarian aid and disaster response, we are organizing the Humanitarian Technology Festival on May 9 and 10 at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, MA. This two day gathering is designed for folks who are passionate about leveraging technology and media in humanitarian aid and disaster response work. It will be a sibling event to the MIT Humanitarian Technology Conference taking place later that week.
Register here for Humanitarian Tech Festival and email us to learn more about our work in this field. Special thanks to our co-organizers Humanitarian Toolbox and City Awake.
Weaponized Social in San Francisco
In New York in February, we organized our first ever event focused on exploring social interactions and conflict resolution in online spaces. Weaponized Social is an ongoing exploration to rethink the social scripts (i.e., learned patterns of interaction) that shape digital communities.
On May 16 and 17, we are bringing these dialogues to Weaponized Social in San Francisco. We invite sociologists, data scientists, peace builders, software developers, activists, and anyone passionate about supporting a healthier online ecosystem to join us.
Hasta luego
We hope this blast of calendar dates finds you well! Feel free to spread the word, and get in touch with us by replying to this email, or any other preferred mode of communication.
best,
Javier & team Aspiration
